Awesome device
It takes few minutes to figure out whats going on and then you dive into real game. As a light technition that works with Compulite, Ma2, Onyx, this plug works nice, gives alot of choices and programming options. The presets are good.

Best Option for Automated Lighting
So I can give my feedback having used this as well as SoundSwitch. So as far as plug and play, I think this comes pretty close to what I was looking for, I already use rekordbox and all you have to do is analyze the songs for phrasing, and it will automate the lights to go along with the music. The automated program for the songs would usually end up on the "cool" preset which is pretty slow moving, but it is easy to set to the "club 2" or "vivid" presets which were both pretty good. Like others have said the control is pretty basic, the moving heads slowly go back and forth and lights flash in rotation. I found the best lights for the automated presets is having 3 to 4 par lights, and it will automate some pretty cool things. The automated scripts for rekordbox lighting were much better than what soundswitch automated. So from there you can go into each song separately and program your own things, but that's where it starts getting really lacking. Cut and paste is really weird, you can't hold and drag select more than one light at a time, everything is like a right click and then edit, you can't just press the spacebar to play/pause the song for some reason, its all very tedious.. I think Soundswitch was much better for programming speedwise, but overall they do have the same features, it just takes time. And like others have said it's only basic controls, brightness, color, strobe, move. Another annoyance is that none of the lighting will export, so you can't set all your lighting up and then export it to a thumb drive, you need to analyze, edit, script and setup all the lighting on the computer you are going to perform with.Anyway, I think it is the best option for having synced up lighting when you are just performing yourself, its pretty easy to automate some basic stuff, it just gets tedious when you want more advanced. I picked it up used for about $250 and am happy with it, $350 is a tougher sell. Btw I returned the Soundswitch, it was $35 and then another $200 or monthly subscription for the software.

Do Not Buy for Chauvet Gigbar 2
I gave this 1 star not because it isn’t a great product. It seems like it would work very well with large lighting rigs and clubs. However, Pioneer advertises this product to work with the Chauvet Gigbar 2, one of the most common mobile DJ light rigs, but it does not work to its full capability. It only ustilizes the two par lights which does not allow the user to have a full light show using the strobes, lazers, and derby’s. This makes using the DMX 1 with the Gigbar 2 entirely pointless. I have contacted Pioneer about this issue and have received no helpful responses. As someone who bought this product specifically to use with the Chauvet Gigbar 2, I am extremely disappointed.

I expected more excitement
This is device doesn't take advantage of combo lighting systems. The customizing feature of the software doesn't seem to work consistently. I'm a MCSA, SEC+ certified Systems engineer on my day job so I know I can follow instructions. But this and the software aren't working too well for me. I think I'd been better off just getting a conventional DMX controller and making my own scenes. For now my Gigbar move is in sound activated mode.

Only provides very basic lighting control/programming
The RB DMX1 has great potential but falls short in functionality for pro lighting purposes. It is very much plug and play with a very intuitive software interface. You will be disappointed however if you are using premium moving head fixtures as it will only allow you to have a basic spot (no gobo) and color for each macro/scene for each fixture. You are unable to utilize gobos, prisms, or other effects like gobo/prism rotation. Currently you can only control color, strobe, fade and movement for moving heads which is very disappointing.

Chauvet Gigbar is supported as of April 2019!
Pioneer has added full Gigbar support in the April 2019 release (Rekordbox v5.5) ! Now all capabilities of the Gigbar 2 are supported and used. I'm running a DDJ-RZX with the RB-DMX1 and a pair of Gigbar 2's. It all works pretty awesomely! Very happy! That said, there are still things that are missing. For example gobo/prism control for moving heads is missing. Scanners and foggers are not yet supported.
