2010 2X CD collection. Ludwig Minkus, born in Vienna gained fame in Russia with his ballet scenes in the 1860's & 70's. in Don Quixote, a romantic young couple outshine the doleful Spanish knight, while La Bayadere breathes the air of the Himalayas. If the Italian-born Riccardo Drigo also made his career in St. Petersburg's imperial theatres, three further contemporaries of Minkus; Eduard Helsted, Holger Paulli & Niels Gade are remembered by their compositions for their fellow Dane, the great choreographer August Bournonville.

Very appealing though with an important omission
This is appealing music played with energy and style. One caveat is in order, though. The Don Quixote Grand pas de deux is not complete. In particular, the famous dazzling coda is omitted – a significant artistic and marketing mistake, in my opinion. Apart from that, this set is well worth having.

BALLET SOUNDTRACK
It's good...I don't play it as much as I do the DVDs...when you can peek at the dancing. I have located some of the same clips on You Tube,...that I have posted to my laptop...to enjoy "on the spot." I have quite a collection of DVDs on ballet that I have purchased, most through Amazon.

Happy to have it
It's great to have this CD. I listen occasionally and enjoy it, but something about Lanchbery's work that is ditzy - little tinkly and cute.

Review and Dissappointment
It was not what I expected. It was a great disappointment. I purchased it to compare the dancing of the Companies with DVDs that I already have. Instead I found these are CDs. I should have read the descriptions more carefully. The colorful illustrations on the advertising misled me .

Superbes musiques
Les musiques de ces CD sont superbes.Possédant les DVD de Don Quixote et La Bayadère, je retrouve la musique de Ludwig Minkus avec un grand plaisir. J'ai découvert les musiques des autres ballets qui sont très agréables. J'ai choisi ces DVD chez Amazon, grâce aux commentaires des internautes et par la suite j'ai désiré me procurer les CD correspondants. Je tiens à préciser que les 2 CD du coffret se déclipsent difficilement!
