OceanicVortex V-16 Split Fins

I used these fins during 5 days of snorkeling in the red sea. The material and finish feel superior to cheaper fins out there. The quick release strap was handy when strong currents had forced me into a shallow coral formation and I needed to get them off quickly and stand up or get shredded by sharp corals.For me the main advantage of these fins over the full boot fins (or sometimes called closed fins) is that they are used in conjunction with a diving boots. If you are entering the water over a rocky shoreline like at many Red Sea locations, you need your feet to be protected when you enter the water. With these fins you can get into the water with your boots and then wear the fins over them. I will admit though they do not offer the same thrust that you get with fins like the Oceanic Vortex V-6, which you wear over your feet directly. But the convenience of not having to enter the water barefoot can outweigh that advantage.I rinsed the fins after each use and have not seen any rust form over the steel springs. I am extremely satisfied with the product and would recommend it for divers and snorkelers. Its a bit on the pricey side but its better than anything you would rent at dive center or similar place.My Shoe size is 12-13 (12 when wearing Adidas, 13 for Nike) and the X-Large size was fine for me. With the U.S. Divers 3mm diving boot it was a comfortable fit. Remember these fins are meant to be worn with diving boots so they are supposed to be bigger than your feet.

These are fast! I tested them out free diving and I can swim faster than the fish. You get a lot of speed with little effort.

Good thrust and excellent on pivoting. Some say "don't go with a split fin...they are for old people" and others like them. I did lots of research on both and targeted this specific fin because of both excellent reviews and positive data on research testing. After diving with them, I'm very satisfied with the overall performance!! And yes, I'm a young guy with good knees ;)

I had to return these. They are extremely uncomfortable with the strap on the back. I don't know how anyone wears these.

If you are just swimming, these are great fins. I like the spring heels. Easy to take on and off and walk around in the boat. Like I said, these are great if you are just swimming. If you are needing to stop and back up, like for underwater photography, these are not the fins you need. These are for constant propulsion in the water. Great in all kinds of water conditions. I'm able to swim fast in these with little effort, even in rough water.
