The Outdoor unit is IP24 protected. If it is to be advised to leave it out in a storm is for you.

Q: can I use this air con for my flat - hang it outside my window. living room is 20 ft x 10 ft. bedroom even smaller. is it quiet enough to sleep with?

I use it in my small office. I have moved the brackets in such a way that it sits on the window ledge and the bracket holds on to side of the window. The internal unit then sits on a desk, but if the internal unit is at the same level or lower than the external unit, then you will need to attach the hose to constantly drain the internal unit of water. Also, I use a radiator heat shield reflector (which are relatively thick and silver in colour, you can buy from amazon) to block the open window and stop the heat from coming into the room. The only thing is that its not designed to cool a big room, but if you have it next to you then you will certainly feel the cool air. I have easily fallen a sleep with it on. its more of a hum rather than a loud noise.
