An Advanced Review of Speech-language Pathology: Preparation for the Praxis and Comprehensive Examination

I graduated in '97 but was unable to work for the last 5-6 years due to illness. I was ready to get back to work, but, much to my horror, I realized I had to retake the PRAXIS to get recertified. I looked at this book and the price is not insignificant, but the reviews were great, so I bit the bullet. I am SO glad I did! I passed the first time with a 191/200!! Yeah, that's 95.5% AND the specialty areas on the test were not my typical area's of expertise. Spend the money. It is worth it.

I haven't delved too far into this book yet, but I already like it and wish I'd had it sooner. It will be an incredible resource for comprehensive exams and the Praxis. I think it would have been great to have as I was taking my graduate level courses, since it highlights and summarizes the information very well. It's well organized and a great compilation of 6 years of speech-language pathology materials. I envisioned using this to get me through the exams and then re-selling it, but I think it will be one of my best resources to keep.

This edition was great. I thought it was a good overview of the information we needed to know both for comprehensive exams and for the Praxis.Also, I studied with others in my class who had the new edition and paid $100 more than I did, but this book contained almost all of the same information, even the review questions at the back of the book were the same. Worth the $20 bucks I paid for it!

Very good book to use to study and pass the Praxis. Mine did come with access to practice tests. Wish the questions weren’t nearly as challenging as they were, as I felt they were significanlty harder than the ones that were actually on the exam. This caused a lot of stress and second guessing while taking the actual exam because I felt the Praxis was easier. Also, the practice tests did not allow the option to go back and change your answers like the test does. The book itself is good, but it didn’t not include some details in certain categories that were important to answering certain questions correctly. Also some questions in the practice tests included ones from the book which made some tests very repetitive. Overall, this book is a good tool to guide studying and prepare for the format. Book is well laid out and images, charts, etc. were helpful to understand more complex topics.

Absolutely LOVE this book!!! I ordered it from Amazon after attempting to order it through the publisher with little success. I wish this book would have been introduced to me at the beginning of graduate school. I think this book has a plethora for information over all the aspects of Speech-Language Pathology. This was a great review tool for my exit exam and Praxis exam. *Note: This book does not contain the access code for online practice tests.

I was unaware when I purchased this book that I wouldn't really be able to use it. All of the answers were filled in and highlighted so that made answering them on my own pretty much impossible. The only thing I was able to use it for was the reading which is what my notes and other books are for. I would definitely not buy it used again, that was a huge mistake.

I bought this book and passed the Praxis about a month later. It is an excellent review. It cuts the fluff you will get in most text books. It gets down and dirty with what you need to know to get the test passed. Live with it for about a month and you too can be certified : 0

With all the positive feedback about this review book, I really thought it would be super amazing and helpful before taking the PRAXIS. I can see it being a good refresher/reviewer to go over all the topics that you learn throughout graduate school, but I found the review questions to be too simple and not reflective of the actual PRAXIS.I like that the book has various sections that go through the topics. You can flip to a section that you wish to review and get a refresher right then and there. Everything is written in easy to understand language that isn't too overwhelming; however, you pay a pretty hefty price for the book - and with the price tag, I want a book that will really benefit me. I felt like the book had very superficial information and didn't go over many needed topics. A lot of my friends do have good things to say about this book, but for me - I found Lof's book a lot more useful.
