True enlightenment comes from Facetiming .... in the Himalayas
I though this was a surprising 'sleeper', which avoided undue sentiment and was very enjoyable. It was pacy and funny with good acting from a varied, international cast, against which Pegg's quirky character Hector, repeatedly bounced off in his search for the answers to 'what is happiness'. I loved many of the pastiche performances, with Rosamund Pike delighting in her role as Hector's stay-at-home wife and professional ad-manager. This film is a lot more than you may expect and I hope it gets seen by a wider audience. Thoroughly likeable !

Excellent movie
I could watch this movie time and again. Simon Pegg is brilliant in an unusual film. Rosamund PIke plays the frustrated girlfriend with perfection. The exploits he gets up to are hysterical. A movie I will watch time and again if only to have a laugh.

Almost great.
I'm glad some other reviewers shared some of my thoughts about this film. It can't decide what sort of film it wants to be. Is it funny, is it sad, is it philosophical? Rather than carefully blending them together, they are kind of all thrown in the pot at the wrong time like a badly followed recipe. You just start feeling one emotion, before it is jolted out of your hands and another is thrust upon you. I found the story very up and down. I was intrigued, then felt like the film was going to be terrible, then I was hopeful as things got interesting, then it would get a bit boring, then cliched etc. There are a few touching scenes that rescue it from two stars though. Its kind of like a combination of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, which I thought was an excellent film, and Eat Pray Love, which was God awful! Its trying so hard to be meaningful with some humour thrown in, but I feel it is poorly put together so it fails to be what it could. I also felt many of the characters were very plastic and over the top. I watched Man Up, another Simon Pegg (Rom-com) film yesterday; a very different film, but that was put together so much better (putting aside some of its cliches).I wouldnt write this film off totally, but if you are looking for a film about a pursuit of happiness and adventure, watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty instead, or at least first.

MADE ME HAPPY AT ANY RATE :))
I have just watched this film on Amazon Instant Video. I felt unhappy cos of a work related incident that was playing on my mind..Watching this film just hooked me out of a miserable mindset and into a happier mindset. A little gem of a film that holds ones attention through all the ups and downs of 'Simon's' search for happiness to a rather lovely and inspiring conclusion! I believe the final message 'that we all have a duty to be happy' and that is why I hoped that this film would change my focus and it came through for me and was a tool to cheer me up again! Who wants to keep company with misery when happiness feels like comfort and home to our very being?:))

Thoughtful Pegg - Works well
This is not your typical Simon Pegg film and no farce. At heart it uses a toned down Pegg (I could perhaps say his formula 'light'?) to narrate a serious enough exploration of the meaning of life, the universe and everything (you know, happiness). The plot engages you through the dull, sad, bad, interesting and happy moments of the journey of self discovery that Simon Pegg conducts in a reasonably credible and sympathetic way. I found it a charming film, and am glad to have it in my library. Never going to win anyone an Oscar, but a good film for an older family who like a thoughtful film.Near nudity, some adult themes, F-Bomb, violence alerts

Delightful, soul-warming movie
World-traveling, terrifying, soul-stretching, heart-warming, funny-bone tickling, head-scratching ... it's all there, and Simon Pegg is the only actor who could have fulfilled the intent of this movie. The only one, IMHO. Whoever authored this story deserves an ovation, and the filmographers along with that person.Everyone, you need to watch this one. It will stay with you a long time. With a smile.

Bel film - buon adattamento dal libro
Il film è molto divertente e piano di significato. E' un buon adattamento del libro di Francois Lelord, anche se la storia è stata abbreviata un po'
