I have a rat who is only attracted to Pepsi - can I put a bowl of this in the cage?

My husband rubs peanut butter on the top of the cage and a little on the platform. We live near the waterway and last year, we caught over 100 (not in a single day). He places it strategically alongside the house, as rats like runways and tunnels. It works all the time. If your rat likes Pepsi, you may try mixing a little honey in the peanut butter. There are both rats and squirrels that live near my house and occupy the same territory. How do I avoid trapping the squirrels? Is the 1025 the best size for rats? Thanks.

Hi... there are a couple of answers to your question. First, this model needs a pretty good sized rat to trip the mechanism. I had better luck with : Havahart X-Small Professional Style One-Door Animal Trap for Chipmunk, Squirrel, Rat, and Weasel - 0745... I caught several of varying sizes with this one. I also accidentily captured one of my favorite squirrels..he wasn't happy. I would keep the rat traps where the squirrels don't go if possible...AND make sure the squirrels have their own feeders so they are not tempted to go where the trap is. Interestingly, now that I've relocated around 9 rats, we haven't seen or heard them in close to a month...and there is never rat poop in the squirrel feeder anymore... it used to be there everyday. Hope that helps.

Is this trap large enough for grey squirrels?

Well I don't know. I am in Alaska and the squirrels we have seem a bit small. If the grey is smaller then yes, but otherwise I might go for a larger size. The trick is that it must me large enough so the squirrel can enter easily, without setting off the trap before they get fully inside, but not so large that they will not set the trap door because they don't weigh enough.

Does anybody have a preference which one works better for chipmunks? 0745 or 1025...?? I've used the larger two door traps for raccoons and possums.

I have both the 1020 and 1025. I used the 1020 indoors last winter to catch 6 mice that were trying set up shop. Caught 1 every night for 6 nights in a row. I just bought the 1025 today at a local store because I needed it fast to stop a couple very destructive chipmunks outside. It took 6 hours and 3 settings of the trap to catch both chipmunks! One of the settings failed to trap the chipmunk due to some mulch that kept the trap from closing all the way (my fault, not the trap's). These things are awesome!

Have a heart live traps 1025 Does the job intended for

Well made east to use and set have trapped many rats set it left for few hours to check and wala on trapped. Used fully open.Also one door open and the other one shut.

Good for catching rats

When I first opened this trap I thought it would be too easily set off by wind, falling twigs, etc. However, it worked perfectly and I caught my first rat within a day of setting the trap.

Rubbish waste of money

Rubbish, it was impossible to set, even a pest control expert couldn't get it to work, the triggers are not sensitive enough if you do actually manage to set the damned thing.
