WOW! - What a fantastic DVD and Instruction method - Let's me really USE MY D850 intuitively
If you just bought, or have owned a Nikon D850 you surely know how incredibly capable this camera is. I’ve been shooting for 40 years as a serious enthusiast from my first Nikon F2AS to Leica Rangefinders to Fuji X’s Mirrorless, etc, but I really missed a Full Frame (FX) camera and chose this camera. Before I get to how incredibly intuitive this instructor has made it to learn your D850 let me share the reason the DVD is so worthwhile to own. THIS CRASH COURSE IS AWESOME FOR BEGINNERS AND SERIOUS AMATEURS LIKE ME. Frankly, just getting the D850 in my hands was a little intimidating since it does SO much, so don't be put-off by the word "Beginners". If you just got a D850, trust me you're still a Beginner.WHY DVD? - First of all You Can Download this entire course if you want from his website, but for me having a real DVD that will run on your big screen TV with a DVD Player is like being in your own classroom instead of just your computer.ACTUALLY HAVING MENU's and CONTROLS ON THE TV REMOTE make things a LOT easier to navigate around. I have a Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player and it actually "upscales" DVD's of all types so my image is great. But ANY DVD player will do and it's looks great.Mainly I wanted the OPTION to have it work on my DVD Player. I didn't want to have to have a computer running near the TV that I have to "cast" the video to on a big screen. If you own a Nikon D850 you can afford a awesome DVD player for your TV too. The very best Blu-ray 4K HD units are only $150 and you don't have to actually buy that level to watch this video. Regular DVD players for TV's are around $50.I DID TRANSFER THE DVD CONTENTS TO MY COMPUTERS DRIVE - the support team told me how to do this using my external computer DVD drive. For me this was great because I have the same "DVD controls" using VLC Player (free) on my Mac or PC as needed. Great for rewind, forward, chapters, and menus. If you don't own a DVD player for your computer then have it transferred to a big file on a USB Stick somewhere. Here again, I'd tell you to own at least one external DVD unit as a storage device for any computer, but that's me. Heck, they'll hold from 8.5gb - 50gb if you want. Man, is it fast on your hard / ssd drive then! I just used the TV again today. But right now I'm using my computer NICE TO HAVE BOTH and resolution is great even when expanded.SO WHAT ABOUT THE CONTENT AND THE COURSE?Very few instructors are actually great. Michael is, Period. YOU WILL BE GLAD THAT ONE PART OF THE VIDEO IS DEVOTED TO BASICS! I know we all think we know all these things (exposure, shutter, ISO, etc etc) BUT HIS WAY OF DEMONSTRATING IT IS OUTSTANDING.MICHAEL's approach is different than a "linear" method of learning your camera. Linear would be your owners manual and you KNOW how laborious that can be. Michael does an excellent job of showing you what each Button or Setting ON the camera or IN the menus is for - and WHAT IT DOES by LIVE EXAMPLES. That alone is completely worth the price of admission. He personally relies on Composition and Visualization first to lead him with his own photography. Using that approach, it's extremely wise to then use the camera's features and it's capabilities to complete that "Visualization" that he speaks of. So, effectively, by using that method you're learning the camera and what settings to go to without rummaging through a lot of areas that don't need to be "memorized" just yet.Within the first hour of going through his course I learned more about HOW and WHY the D850 buttons performed. I was IMMEDIATELY using the knowledge I was learning along the way. Each time a button was pushed on it was "highlighted" so you knew exactly which button or setting it was which made things visually much easier to follow. In fact, I would say for everyone to do the same. Watch a part of it and then use those features JUST the way he did in the video. Push the buttons and experiment. It's little things like pushing two buttons together to format your storage card instead of going through a lot of menus.HIS METHOD ON HOW TO USE THE D850 MENU'S. - Here again, the instruction is truly excellent, and I’ve have actually “learned” what this very robust camera is doing, how to execute these things simply (that’s huge alone) , and why for once. I’ve had a few good camera guides but nothing as well done as this. His DEMONSTRATIONS of what the settings do are what truly help. For example his demonstrations of the different White Balance selections are demonstrated visually for most every setting. So instead of just setting everything Auto (because we don't want to really learn it) we can at least now KNOW we have some important yet simple ways to change our lighting balance. THIS WAS A HUGE for me. I bought this camera to get spectacular shots, not just mediocre shots. Knowing this one feature and how in the world to control it will assure me of this.VIDEO - I did not buy this camera for video, but I KNOW it's does a great job of it. I am not experienced with video so I kind of left that to iPhone items from time to time. NOT ANYMORE! - after sneaking peaks at what he's doing to use video I would be a complete fool not to use this camera for it's video capability. He makes the really important things accessible to even me.Most assuredly this course and this camera has given me the nudge to learn more and justify the money spent and time involved to create memories and beauty of the world God gave us to enjoy. I'm confident my children and their children will be glad I did the best I could with this special form of art called photography. Thanks to Michael who spent the time and effort to help others along their path to learning as well. Well Done!
