Wilton Pirate Ship Shaped Pan

The relief design doesn't come out as clearly on the baked cake as it does on other Wilton novelty tins I've tried, but still made for a good-looking pirate ship cake for my son's birthday. The tin itself is decent quality - standard Wilton fare.The instructions also appear to refer to US standard cake mix/boxed cake mix sizes, which is unhelpful - I haven't a clue what a "2 layer cake mix" involves when baking in the UK from scratch! Some online sleuthing led to the suggestion of using a 5-egg Victoria sandwich mix and that worked well.

Good. I greased it all over just with butter dusting it later with some flour, and managed to unmold the cake faultlessly. I think with tins in general which have special designs like these ( little windows etc.. the most important thing is to get the dough's weight and amount right, what Imean is ...If it is too spongy or light weight it may become harder to get it out of the tin . Filled the tin with a chocolate dough almost to the top of the tin, turned it, waited a bit and voila.

Very disappointed by this. The ship effect is lost when the cake baked i.e. most of the detail on the mould is not visible on the cake so you are left with a cake with only the vague shape of a ship.Unlikely to ever use it again so an expensive mistake.

The prefect cake tin for my son's pirate themed birthday. I recommend using a good cake release.
