Knives and Scabbards (Medieval Finds from Excavations in London, 1)

A magnificent addition to my library
This is a scholarly text. Period. This was written by archaeologists, for archaeologists and goes into enough depth on the topics for this to serve as a primary source. The catalog alone makes this book worth while; it takes up the last 90 pages of the total 168 pages, it is well illustrated and lists all important details of each artifact touched on.The catalog is divided into three notable sections; knives (pg.78-106), shears and scissors (pg.106-114) and scabbards (115-168). The information given is of the nature expected in an archaeological text, length, width, thickness, material composition, decorative elements and, when necessary, outstanding details that fit into none of the above. This is a magnificent text for anyone who is interested in replicating either period knives or sheaths.

The few pictures and drawings of leather sheaths were useful to re create the designs accurately
Mostly about the metallurgy of medieval knives and how they were made, along with some pictures and hundreds of drawn images detailing out the individual knives. The few pictures and drawings of leather sheaths were useful to re create the designs accurately, and very informative about their construction.

Excellent reference item for re-enactors
Excellent material for re-enactors looking to add authenticity to their costume or looking for period examples of medieval leatherwork and small knives. The line drawings are superb and help to clarify the photos.

Ottimo libro
Il libro analizza coltelli, forbici e foderi dal 1100 al 1400. In base ai reperti trovati a Londra. È molto dettagliato e sono presenti molte immagini ed informazioni metallurgiche.

Great as usual with this collection
This book is among the must have for medieval reenactors, and also for knive makers and leather crafters who share interest in the medieval period. It's a small peek in the medieval daily living for the historian who will read this book, or a really good reference for those who may want to reproduce knives and scabbards from this period
