It is a must have if you want to get the Nias tent, especially when rain; since the tent has a center section that open to the environment and the outer tent will not block all the rain, some will slip in thru the gap (quite big); and the mini ground sheet that came with the tent also leaves many gaps, this ground sheet is essential if you want to keep your stuff clean and dryPeg the sheet to the ground first then it can be connected to the tent D ring

I bought this footprint to better use the vestibules of the  Heimplanet Fistral . It is lightweight and has loops to attach to the pegs (not shown on the image), so it is straightforward to keep in place. Since it is thin, I am not sure how much protection will offer against thorns, but it is always a good practice to check and clean the terrain where do you plan to pitch your tent. Heimplanet Fistral
