Elvis Presley - Original Keys for Singers Paperback – Illustrated, 1 April 2015

Could really do with more than 25 songs, but they're all good. For such a popular artist as Elvis Presley, Hal Leonard should seriously think about publishing volumes 2, 3, 4 etc. in this same high quality series of "Original Keys For singers", which are excellent books to have. I have other books from this same series, and they're certainly thicker books, with more songs - this one feels noticeably thin by comparison, even at 120 pages.As well as being in the original keys, the musical transcriptions here are undoubtably better quality, and easily more authentic to the famous recordings than you'll find in any other Elvis sheet music books, and that's the whole point. It's very easy to follow along to this sheet music while listening to Elvis' recordings. They have all got the recognisable intros written out, the way you expect them to sound, and the entire song notated, full length - start to finish, without any abbreviation or simplification of the structure, except for obvious musical repeated sections notated appropriately. That's not to say they are 100% perfect. There's some incorrect lyrics in "Suspicious Minds", and in general you'll find some notes or phrases and chord voicings in the book are fairly close but not exact, but at least they've made an effort to transcribe what's there and give you something as a decent guide part.The only heinous omission is they wimped out of transcribing the complicated chromatic solo in "Too Much" which Scotty Moore played on electric guitar - and funnily enough, because the song was in Ab (and like most guitar players, he obviously hadn't practised enough playing in Ab), Scotty got lost halfway through and messed it up, but when they listened to the playback, Elvis liked the unusual, rambling, atonal solo and decided to keep it for the release, so now it's infamous. Anyway, Hal Leonard have just printed "Guitar solo ad lib." and left the stave empty.
