Effective
This has been set up in my bedroom and has been running day and night on the lowest setting, it has been practically silent on the lowest setting, making it perfect for overnight use.It is discrete and unobtrusive both in volume and style as it is a simple and sleek black unit ( when the light option is switched off) and you would never know that it was an air filter , in fact I think that it looks a little like a speaker from around 1990.On higher settings the noise does increase and whilst these higher settings are good for particularly dusty or high pollen days the noise does interfere with the sound of the t.v and I would not be able to sleep with it on this setting. The higher setting is great for days when you have been carrying out D.I.Y.The remote control is a great idea, it allows you to control the unit from the comfort of your bed or armchair and switch the odour control on to deal with any unpleasant smells that arise ( great for pet owners).Cleaning is easy as the filters are easy to remove and put back- you simply pull off the front, unlock the unit and it slides out- under the front of the unit you will also find a small brush to help you brush the dust off the filter. As a sufferer of allergic rhinitis I have found an improvement when using this unit, I have more airflow through my nose and my headaches are less, so I would highly recommend.

The price of clean air?
I have to admit I was not totally convinced for the need for an Air Purifier but after using this one I can now see the value. It came in a large box along with a remote control, and instructions. It is also supplied with a cleaning brush but this is stored inside the unit as I found out later. It is a hefty device about 46cm high 25cm wide and 23cm deep but looks stylish with its shiny black finish and blue lights. I was pleased to note these can be dimmed or switched off via the remote control, handy if you intend to locate it in a bedroom. It is simple to use with an on/off button that also controls the speed, a function button that enables the odor filter and the light control button. These buttons are duplicated on the top of the unit and on the remote control. The front of the unit un-clips easily to allow access to the filters and it should be noted this cuts out the fans so it is worth checking if the unit won't operate. Mine was a little lose after delivery but was fine when I clipped it back in. There's a brush inside the unit for cleaning and the filters are easy to access and just slide out of the unit. The unit is a bit awkward to carry due to it's size, shape and lack of a carry handle. If the mains lead is too short it should be noted some of it was wrapped around the storage in the base which is a nice feature that allows you to store excess cable out of site under the unit. The fans have three speeds, the first two are quiet but the third is quite noisy and I cannot imagine using this speed unless you are out of the room. The remote is a little fussy about where you point it as well but the unit does beep when any changes are made.I use the unit in my office, this is a small room full of computers that gets quite stuffy as the day goes on and actually it seemed to work. I often feel lethargic in the afternoon and the air definitely felt fresher, it may also help reduce the dust in there too that gets blown about by the cooling fans. This is quite expensive, takes up a fair bit of room but does seem to work and has definitely made my work environment more pleasant. If you suffer from allergies this may be more essential but I have no experience on its effectiveness in this area.

Good air purifying but a little loud
The Oreck Dual Max Air Purifier is a lot bigger than I thought and also a lot heavier, and due to it size it’s the sort of thing that's fairly noticeable in any room that it’s put in.It has a series of controls at the top of the unit but fortunately comes with a remote control as well, which is what I use to control it. When left running all day I did notice that there was more of a freshness to the air in the room, it was also noticeable that any odors that came into the room from outside sources seemed to dissipate very quickly. My main disappointment with this is the noise, the unit definitely works at it’s best on the higher setting but I found the loud noise this produces to be a little irritating and intrusive, so found myself repeatedly putting it on medium (the low setting seemed too low to have any effect).A bonus is that the filter is cleanable so there’s no ongoing cost of continuously buying new filters.
