Yohannes IV of Ethiopia: A Political Biography Paperback – November 22, 2013

This is an amazing book Beside how well documented the sources are , it was also easy to read and well written. The modern 19c Ethiopian kings Tewodros, Yohannes, and Minilik , all dedicated their lives to keep this blessed country united and independent. it was interesting to read how Yohannes, and Minilik worked together to expand the countries territories, despite having differences. The sad part is vast number of Ethiopians do not get to read or know this kind of book and their own history.

One of the few unbiased Ethiopian history books written with substance. We need more authors like this who can put their perspectives substantiated with evidence.

This is a great , detailed, unbiased, and well told that part of Ethiopian history. The prejudice of Ethiopian historians has down played the greatness of Yohannes and the scarifies he took to save the Ethiopian state and the people who were in eminent danger of Jihad, Egyptian invasion, and Italian encroachment. The book has exposed how the emperor dealt with external and internal adversaries given the political instability of the state after the era of the princes.

This book is difficult to put down. It is well written and entertaining. But it is also the product of serious and deep research. It is educating and transformative. This is a book to have and keep.
