Well made and a great value
This tire rack is very sturdy and appears to be made of quality steel. The finish is flawless, no doubt as a result of Smittybilt using higher quality packaging. The assembly and mounting are pretty straight forward. The included directions aren’t the best but are workable. I found a YouTube on it and it made it extremely easy. I read about others having difficulties finding a compatible padlock. I used a Master Lock 1 7/8 inch Magnum C M115XDLF which fit with no problems. It’s also black and rubber coated (see photo)This tire rack is a great value and much stronger than the OEM

Nice tire carrier!
Probably the cheapest plus sturdiest tire carrier out there. Easy to install. One thing that wasnt possible was the license relocate if you were interested on it. What I did was went to walmart and bought some metal brackets and kind of custom made my own to clamp down to the Y-Bar.

Works well with some modifications
Good product. I replaced my stock tire carrier on a 2015 Unlimited Rubicon with this and mounted a stock wheel w/ 35" Baja MTZ. No rattle or bounce. On the lowest setting w/ this tire carrier, the MTZ is about 1/2 inch from resting on stock bumper. Mind you I have the Hard Rock edition Rubicon so the stock bumper is different than other Rubicons. I'd prefer the tire to sit right on the bumper to avoid the risk of it bouncing when I hit big bumps but so far I haven't noticed any movement with normal driving. The tire presses firmly against the two bars on each side of the carrier. The tire carrier is easy to install using common hand tools. Install was about 1 hour, mostly because I took the entire thing off to move it down one notch so the tire would sit lower. I did have to cut about 1/2 inch off my stock bump stops so the tire could press firmly against them when mounted. Stock length was too long and the bump stops kept bending then falling off when the tire was mounted. Also, one thing to note is I had to completed remove my stock vent off the back of the tailgate for this product to go on. Instructions say to cut/trim the vent but I would have had to cut almost an entire inch off each side of the vent for the carrier to properly mount. So I opted to just remove the entire vent and put duct tape over the opening to prevent rain/bugs from getting in. Not a big deal but I didn't expect to have to do this thus why I give just 4 stars for having to 'modify' my stock Jeep to get this to fit properly. Also, for what we are paying I think this product should come with a locking mechanism.

Solid
I had to replace mine due to the owner before me didn't keep the T handle greased so it broke and could not fix so I replace it with same maker Smittybilt. It's easy to mount and it's solid. Do yourself a favor and put lots of grease on the T handle threads and loosen it and tighten it up to keep it in working order. There is no reason this should not last you your intire life. Hopely it's a long one. Hope this helps and stay safe on the trails.

Great Product for the money!
I have had this tire carrier for 12 months now and I like it a lot! I mounted a 315x70x17 tire on a stock Jeep rim and it fits perfect. It hasn't rusted, and the tailgate feels as sturdy as the day I installed it. For the money I would suggest it because it does its job well, you can put a lock on it so no one can walk off with a 500 dollar tire, and I go off road all the time and its still a solid set up! I would recommend this product.

Just what I needed
This is a great solution to still maintain the factory bumper and tailgate hinges. I run 34 in tires on my wrangler and the factory tire mount was starting to make noise. This thing is heavy duty and provides lots of reinforcement to the tailgate. I think eventually new hinges will be in order as well but is thing really does the trick to provide support and stability. Can be adjusted to fit your tires/rims.

The “maximum rating of 195 lbs” as claimed by smittybilt was well over the weight of the tire and wheel I planned to put on it so I thought this would be a good bet. Wrong
I purchased this carrier to hold a 35” tire. The “maximum rating of 195 lbs” as claimed by smittybilt was well over the weight of the tire and wheel I planned to put on it so I thought this would be a good bet. Wrong. It is now out of warranty and it is causing spot welds on the inside of the tailgate to pop and warp due to the tire weight and anytime I hit road that is not 100% flat I get a 2-3 second bounce and wobble from the spare tire. Keep in mind everything is tight and no bolts are loose it is simply the tire carrier allowing the metal to weeken causing the bouncing. To top it off, I am looking for a solution to stiffen the entire assembly similar to teraflexes hinged system costing me sever hundred dollars extra. In my search I came across a similar product that smittybilt makes with a beefed up hinge and cross member but it DOESNT FIT THE OTHER SMITTYBILT CARRIER so I have to purchase the entire assembly instead of just the bing peice. Give me a break. Don’t buy this bs please

The tire rack itself it great. My problem lies with the attachment lug
The tire rack itself it great. My problem lies with the attachment lug. Instead of using wheel lugs to hold the wheel on it pokes through the hub hole. I had to remove the hub cover on my new $200 rims to get it to mount and then it uses a two-handed twist hold it. If you do not use a lock the hub will twist off and you could potentially lose your spare and rim. The worst part of it is that then "claw" that helps hold the rim in place gouged my brand new rim.
