Size:5.5" The Yost 855-D2 Industrial Grade Reversible Vise is designed for mechanics that need a vise with large jaw opening capabilities. This updated design of our reversible vise is now stronger than ever! Built from 60, 000 PSI ductile iron, this vise is 2x stronger than competitor models. A redesigned nut and screw allow for increased clamping force. For unmatched versatility this vise features a reversible main jaw. When the front jaw is reversed, the jaw capacity is increased to a phenomenal 9-3/4". 5. 5" Serrated Jaws are designed to grip products securely. The two machined anvils provide a smooth work surface for forming or shaping. The 360 degree swivel base allows the vise to be rotated to any position for easy operation. The base features two lockdowns that will prevent the vise from rotating once the lockdowns have been tightened. The base also features four mounting tabs to secure the vise to the workbench (mounting hardware not included). Built to Yost Specifications, made in China.

Get the jaw inserts off as soon as you get it.
Nice vise for the price. Do yourself a favor and disassemble it and replace the light oil with some good grease on the screw and ways and grease the joint between the mounting flange and base. It's also a lot easier to drill for mounting with the base off.Helpful hint...if you ever plan on reversing or replacing the jaw inserts, get them off right away. The button bolts were tightened by a gorilla apparently and there's a gooey thread lock substance on them. One was so tight I twisted off an Allen socket and had to drill it out. Looks like the threads are 5/16-18 so it would be helpful to have that size tap on hand to clean the gunk out of the threads. Allen size appears to be 3/16 but is very shallow and the metal rather soft. Tapping in a 5mm bit gives a better bite to exert the torque required to get the bolts loose. Allen socket is easier to control than an l-wrench. I will most likely replace those fasteners with something higher quality. If you don't do the above, I have my doubts you'll ever get those jaw inserts loose years later when rust, metal filings and general gunk are in the mix. Then you'll be drilling off the heads and possibly the bolts and retapping all the holes. Not fun. A little light oil or antiseize on the threads before reassembly would be prudent.I'm also putting some washers below the base hold down bolts so they don't dig into the cast iron over time. I plan on keeping this vise for a long time.If it weren't for the ridiculously overtightened bolts on the jaw inserts, I'd be giving this five stars.

Don't use the drilling template
Just got this 855 today. I build commercial aircraft for a living for the past almost 23 years. To me, this vise seems like a light duty vise just based on the very thin base and the square portion of the vise that goes back and forth. I have zero confidence this will endure long term. It has a 3 year warranty. The 6 1/2 inch vise that is almost double the money at $230 currently, has the lifetime warranty. One thing that really ticks me off about this is that the drilling template for the base is for holes that are 6.29 inches apart. Of course I didn't realize this until I drilled 3 of the holes. The vise holes are actually 5 1/2 inches apart. I don't know what the heck is going on here. Never had this issue with any other products I have had to drill holes for using a template. It is quite obvious when you look at the vise and template but I was in a hurry and didnt give it a 2nd thought.

Broke after 3 months of light use
Jaw cap broke off after 3 months of light-duty use. What's worse is the screw (pot-metal?) snapped in half, so I will have to try and extract it.The only other issue was lack of grease on the main screw (easy fix).---------------Edit: I changed my rating from 1 to 4 stars after Yost sent me replacement screws (albeit the same cheap screws) and a new set of jaw inserts. I suppose this was a goodwill gesture as they stated these parts are not covered under warranty. No, it didn't save me the hassle of drilling out the broken screw and tapping new threads but it did mean something that they stood behind their product a little bit.I am leaving my original review, and the pictures of the broken screw, so other buyers will be aware these weak screws are a major issue. I recommend replacing the screws with something more robust before using your new vise. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, I recommend removing the Loctite and greasing the screws so they will be easier to remove in the future.Overall I am happy with this vise, but it is really intended for use in a medium-duty work environment.

Nice
I added a pic with a level held in the vise so you can see how close to the edge I mounted the vise and how much gap there is between the workbench and the level. The operation is nice and smooth. It feels really solid, but I've only done a few light jobs with it so I can't comment on durability.

A beast of a vise. True workhorse
Okay. I have had this vise for for just over a year. I feel I can give an honest review so here it goes.Negatives first: Vise came with very little grease on main screw. Easy fix though took me 5 min to take care of. That’s it no more negativesWarnings:Due to torque that can be applied ( without much effort I might add) I regret to say a few things didn’t really live after being in The vise I may have gotten a little carried away. Lol.Now On to the meat and potatoes.I frigging love this vise!Being a diesel tech I tend to be tough on stuff and This vise can take it.I’ve pounded u-joints out while holding the drive shaft in the vise. I’ve done suspension bushings,Fabricated brackets. Custom shaped wrenches for those tough to reach fasteners. Made bent metal back into straight metal and vise versa.Easily clamped things down so I could grind, drill, tap etc on parts thus leaving my hands free to work the tools and be away from the danger.I have full confidence in the vise. It swivels 360deg and locks solid in whatever spot I put it. Also holds exhaust pipe with ease.Loved it so much I bought a second albeit smaller one for my little bench in my basement.

Made in China
Didnt even get the vise set up yet and noticed 2 hair line cracks in one of the base plate mounting locations. Not sure why Yost didnt completely fill the voids in the 4 mounting locations definataly a weak point in the vise. For 150 dollars taxes in not a good purchase. Dont recommend at all.Should of returned the vise but living in rural Canada and the fact I needed the vise that day i did tig weld it back together with a Ni alloy rod and its held so far but fear if any heavy work comes up in the future another one of the mounting holes may crack.

Good quality Chinese vise.
I don't abuse this vise so I can only tell you the jaws slide in and out smoothly, they are ground perfectly, I made two Aluminum soft jaw pads right away . the base is not solid ,it is hollow so if you mount it on a table , be aware not to crank the bolts too tight, that's the only beef I have about this vise, other than that , it is just as good as my old Record mechanic's vise.
