Superb sound, comfortable, great ANC, excellent build
I was deciding between these Panasonic headphones, the Sennheiser PXC-550 and the Bose QC-35. Actually, I had just about ruled out Bose from the beginning because I always feel they are priced for the name, like Sony, and yet are not that great functionally to justify their high price. While I have heard the Bose, I was flying blind with the Sennheiser and Panasonic models, depending almost totally on specs and customer reviews. With Bose, the noise cancellation is unquestionably top-of-the-line, but the sound quality for me is just average. I was very tempted by the Sennheiser, but Panasonic won out mainly because I have owned quite a lot of Panasonic electronic equipment and have faith in the brand. I have never owned anything Sennheiser, and tend to think of their brand being more associated with business use rather than regular consumers.I am very glad I settled on the Panasonic headphones. They have a solid, clean build, a simplistic, understated look, all-black, and are very comfortable. As for sound, they really are superb. There is no coloring to the sound, and yet they do not sound flat at all. The sound is rich and full, and in fact I hear things that I have never heard before in many of the songs I really thought I knew well. The bass is beautiful and warm, the mid-range clear and not compressed- sounding, like many mid-ranges in lesser-quality equipment, and the highs are crisp and clear. I'm actually really happy with the sound even without any equalization, and I tried many genres, from classical through jazz, rock, folk and contemporary.Of course, one of the main features you are paying for at this price point is active noise cancellation, and this Panasonic unit does not disappoint. The noise cancellation is truly exceptional, and I would say is on a par - or even better than - Bose. I love the idea of three levels of noise cancellation, which gives you some flexibility in applying only just as much noise cancellation as might be needed. While I haven't yet had a chance to try the noise cancellation on an airplane, I have no doubt they will perform just fine. All the other functions work as expected, i.e., forward and back skip, pause and play, ANC on, off and three levels, headphones on/off, and Bluetooth pairing. Pairing with one device is a breeze, as it is with two devices simultaneously. Also, the wired connection for sound is a great feature for when the built-in battery runs down unexpectedly. I also particularly like the ability to silence the phones by cupping a hand over the right earpiece, thus allowing you to hear outside sounds when needed without removing the headset. Some people have complained about the owner's manual being a single, thin sheet of folded-down paper. I agree this is a little disappointing for such a high-end device, but if it's any consolation, there is an online pdf version which you can download. Finally, I like that the hard-shell case has an interior pocket for storing the accessories. This really is a first class headset, and I am loving it. This a great example of "you get what you pay for", yet in this case I feel you get even more, because it could easily be priced the same as Bose and people would still buy it!Don't hesitate to buy these Panasonic headphones. Let your search end here with confidence. I am certain you won't be disappointed.

Great Sound Quality, Weak Plastic
I was deciding between these, the Bose QC II and the Sony WH1000XM2. After reading the reviews on here and online. I settled for these. I don't want a $300 headset to break with normal use (Sony). I also heard the Bose has problems pairing with computers. As for the Panasonic, I can say the sound is decent and clear. Maybe not the best out there but still excellent. The Noise cancelling function is very nice, but since I never tried others with such feature, I can't say much here. They are very comfortable to wear, a bit small but the ear cups will nicely hug your ear and provide some passive noise isolation. One thing is that they are made of leather, and in hot weather you'll get a bit sweaty there.Edit:I am adding to the review after almost four months of using them. I take super care with them but now they started showing some cracks in the plastic on the side slides. They aren't broken yet but I guess they will sooner or later. Another expensive headphones with cheap plastics. Very disappointed really. Down from 5 starts to 3 stars.

so cheap, terrible quality
they sound good, the noise cancelling is great, but the build quality is terrible which makes the other features useless. I've had this pair for about two months. They receive normal wear, I only use them at my desk during the day and they don't travel with me at all. After only two months they are falling apart. The plastic is cracking and crumbling just above the ear cups and has started to inhibit the ability to adjust the headphone size since one side has completely broken off and gets stuck in the headband.I thought I would save some money on the Bose QC35's with these, but they have fallen apart after two months and now I'm going to buy the bose headset anyway. It's true what they say, "buy nice, or buy twice" and these headphones are definitely NOT nice.

Nice set!! Recommended.
These are very nice. They have been used for several hours in multiple sessions and caused my big noggin no trouble. Sound is good, better than my Bose 35ii's by a small margin. Noise reduction is good, but not on par with Bose. There is also a light audible hiss when noise cancelling is on high. They also reach a higher volume than the 35ii's if that is a concern for some. The hold hand over right ear thing is very helpful and something all these higher end sets should have. Got the black version since they are cheaper than the brown for some reason. Wanted the brown ones though. Ear cups could be a bit softer and the headband could have a bit more padding. I noticed no difference in sound with any of the hi res features enabled, but most of my source material is only 320.

Great sound, but plastic slide fractured
I have really liked the sound of these headphones - wanted to keep them for a long time. Easily the best sounding ones out there! The issue that caused me to return them is with the left hand slide breaking. The plastic slide cracked after only a couple of uses and I have always kept it in the supplied case, so excessive forces couldn't have been applied. Also, I have only charged the headset once, i.e. not even used it enough to drain the battery once and it broke. I am so disappointed with the design and the build quality of otherwise great headphones.
