Think CrucialReplacement for Bonavita #4 Coffee Filter Fits BV1800 8-Cup Coffee Maker, Washable & Reusable

Saying this filter fits a Bonavita BV1800 is like saying 32" waist slacks fit even though I wear 28" waist slacks. I normally use 66 grams of coffee with a full pot of water. I also roast my own beans so the coffee is really fresh and has a tendency to expand at first. The filter, being a little bit too narrow, allows some grinds to flow over the side and work its way into the pot of coffee. I think by reducing the amount of coffee used and adjusting the grind size this will problem will go away as long as I'm getting a good cup of coffee.I will say that the coffee brewed through this filter is very close in mouth feel and taste to my French Press sourced coffee. All the oils are allowed to flow through the filter rather than getting adsorbed by a paper filter. IMO, making coffee with any full immersion type of coffee maker, French Press, Vacuum Pot, etc., makes the best coffee and any other method is a compromise of some sort. This wire mesh filter with the Bonavita produces the finest drip coffee possible. Until a better fitting filter becomes available, I would recommend this product.

This filter was advertised on Amazon as specifically designed for my exact coffee maker. It turns out that's not true, it's a generic model - that was my first disappointment. Second, compared to paper filters it leaves ~1/16" gap between the mesh and the grounds-holder on my coffee maker (a Bonavita), so I lose about 1/4 cup worth of grounds capacity, which weakens the brew for a full pot. Third bummer, if I fill it up too much the water actually overflows the edges of the filter (which at best makes weak coffee and at worst makes a mess all over the counter). Unfortunately, due to the smaller grounds capacity, I really do need to fill it with grounds for a full 8 cup pot. That overflow is not necessarily a product defect, just an apparent result of the fine mesh and slow drip-thru. So, if you only need to make a 4-5 cup pot of coffee this filter is eco-friendly and works pretty well. However, if you frequently make a full 7 or 8 cup pot of coffee, steer clear; you're better off with traditional paper filters.

Paper filters sometimes collapse and then water and coffee grounds pour out the top making a big mess. Don't have to worry about that anymore. Plus the coffee seems to have more body. We are very happy with the purchase.

The only issue is that if you make the full 8 cups, this filter is too low in the maker, and the water bubbles over the top every time. This causes grounds to flow into the pot. It's not a TON of grounds, only a few, so its not the worst, but less than ideal.Also, I feel like this makes a weak pot of coffee. I think it has to do with the wire mesh, which I feel like lets more water through faster. This causes the extraction to have less time to extract, creating a weaker brew. I've tried a finer grind, but if the water fills up for too long, then again, more bubbles over the top, and more grounds go into the pot. Quite the catch 22. I typically use light roasts, so maybe a medium roast would help. I'll have to try that tomorrow.Again, great for a back up when we run out of paper filters, but hardly an ideal replacement.

This fit the coffee maker but is not made very sturdy rather thin so it will have to be hand washed as opposed to dishwasher.

While this is described as a filter made especially for the Bonavita coffee maker, it is not! This is a generic gold mesh filter for any brand that uses this shape. That would be fine with me, but the filter causes coffee to overflow on to my counter because the holes are too small for proper filtration. This happens about 10% of the time, but that's too frequent! I've used the filter for a few months, and this problem started with it and has continued. Time for a better filter.

Does not fit properly in my coffee pot which takes number 4 cone filters. It does not allow the closure of the lid, and keeps the lid opened slightly. It's possible it's the coffee pot's fault, and not this basket.The filter/basket smelled like rotting eggs upon un-packaging, I nearly gagged and rinsed it under water for a few minutes before the smell would go away. Sulfur smell? Not sure why, but it smells stinky.It's working well enough though, even tough the lid on the pot is stuck open and the smell was bad when opening, it didn't hurt the coffee taste at all and hopefully I won't die from some strange toxic effect. :)

The quality of this filter is excellent, will hold up a long time. I liked that the seller gave the info that it would fit the Bonavida 4-5 cup coffee brewer because that was what I was buying. The filter came with info which was surprising since it is self explanatory, but basically the seller provides information regarding the product and stands behind it.

Excellent filter at reasonable price. Very little residue can pass through. Good for tea and/or coffee.

looks and works as advertised

The description written by the Bonavita coffee maker suggested the filter I needed was a special size. it wasn't. My old one would have worked just fine. I wasted my money.

I bought this filter to use for pour over method. I found that I grind the coffee too fine for this mesh. The sis meant for drip coffee machines and a larger grind.

I like it, but wished it was as fine as the paper filters, which is not.
