This Can Be A Serious instrument
No one laughs at this guitar where I play and because of its uniqueness, there is always audience interest. this instrument may look like a guitar but this serious tool should be named the musicians switch knife...dont let this one get away from you folks like the Yamaha EZ trumpet did, many failed to understand its uniqueness and thought it was a toy not realizing its musical tool potential and now you cant find an EZ Trumpet on the market to save your life, I've been a musician for over 30yrs and never really cared for electronic instruments but I know a dependable and usable tool when I see one ,, EZ Guitar is just that!P.SMine did come with its own power chord

Not useful for MIDI data entry
I bought it to try out as a MIDI input device to my Sibelius software. I just wanted to enter one note at a time in real time. I thought it would be easier than picking notes out on the piano because I don't play piano. For several reasons it didn't work well at all for that, so I sent it back. Other than that, I have no opinions about this product. It seemed nicely made, probably ok for what it was intended for. It's mostly a toy in my opinion.

Fantastic little instrument with loads of possibilities to explore
Great little device which provides a lot of fun for both experienced players and people just starting. Much easier to play than a 'real' guitar, and a wonderful intro for non-players. I'm truly sorry that this item isn't made anymore. A real joy.

Yamaha really DID put the "EZ" in it's EZ-AG Digi-tar.After practicing for just 1hr, I could play my selection all by myself!
If you take the time to familiarize yourself with the EZ-AG's features by reading enough out of the owner's manual, to just gleen a basic working knowledge of the different ways it can show you how to learn the fundamentals of each of the 20+songs already stored inside. Your devotion only really starts to sink in, when your friends come up to you, after not hearing you play for awhile, and compliment you on the seemingly effortless talent that is now just an everyday part of you. You owe this new ability in part to Yamaha's techno-wizardry. Just by repeatedly copying the flashing lights with your fingers on the fret board with your left hand until mastered, and then conquering the correct strumming/picking patterns & rhythms with your other hand, and then marrying them both together to eventually learn to perform all the 20 plus songs that come already programmed inside the guts of the Yamaha EZ-AG Digital Guitar's virtually limitless interactive song library. It isn't long before you want more. Through internet research, you discover that you are ready to order the relatively inexpensive "midi" cable needed to be able to download a whole new list of your favorite songs to your EZ-AG, from a list of websites that are partnered with, or have been specially created by Yamaha, with you, and it's other customers in mind. Embracing & utilizing this technology to the fullest, virtually any song you want to learn, can be safely downloaded to your computer, then uploaded directly to your EZ-AG via the 'midi' cable, and is now literally at your finger tips within minutes, to be practiced until learned, mastered and quickly deleted to make room for the next batch of new songs scheduled to be added to your steadily growing repertoire. I must also mention the EZ-AG features the ability to make synthesized sound reproductions of:an electric bass-like keyboard, along with some sort of horn or flute instrument, and a banjo & a violin type of sound. To be honest with you, the synthesizer sounds that are made, sound like the instruments found on my Grandmother's electric organ. But, the nice people at Yamaha Software even made some programs, instructional material, designed to help you use the add-on synthesizer features take your musicianship to even higher levels. All in all, with all kidding put aside, I have to say that the EZ-AG seems to be made fairly well, and I would think it should be around long enough to pass down through(a generation or two) if handled with some conscious effort, and a little care it should EZ-ily last until you decide what family member gets it next.

Amazing
I got this for my 8 year old daughter for her birthday and i liked it so much i got myself one too. I had played drums and keys in bands for years and never learned guitar. With in two weeks of getting this guitar i was pluging it into my PA and playing and singing all the old songs i used to play drums to in the old bands. My daughter loves it too although her fingers can t quite reach all of the cords. I have writen several songs using it and i just can t imagine parting with it. I have taken it on vacations in cars, on trains and plaines and it is still working like new.I would recomend this guitar to anyone wanting to learn guitar.

Can be used for additional sounds/ instruments
The neck is rather thin and small for my hands and arthritis, but I enjoy doing single line melodies on it. Patched into a computer with a program like MiGiC , I get some really nice saxaphone lines. Much easier to do than pulling out my synth guitar, converter, and special 24 pin cable when I just want to doodle a little.

yamaha ez ag
Most of the reviews I have read about this product were written by people who are musicians. I am not, but have always wanted to play the electric guitar. I have tried everything, and this is the first time I am starting to learn something.First all the songs programmed on the guitar and available to upload are super lame, nothing I would ever want to learn how to play. Next the software is programmed so that a non-musician cannot understand what is happening on the fretboard. Lighted programmed fret board with slow-down technology, very cool idea, but comes up way short in reality. As a nonmusician, here is how I use it. The lighted frets work like a keyboard. When you press a button it makes the sound of that note. I pull up tabulature, online(for free), on a song I want to learn, and practice the notes without strumming or picking. Because the lighted buttons sound out the note, I can focus on nailing the intricate hand movements first (left hand), and then go back and work on string picking(right hand). I am working on Daytripper right now, what a blast that I can kinda play it!I plan on purchasing an actual electric guitar and going between the two. The yamaha to learn the song, and the actual guitar to rock out.I had no idea how to read tablature, but it takes 5 minutes to learn the basics, look for a tutorial. Every song ever written has tablature.

Amazing product. Arrived early too.
Sent from Japan. Arrived two weeks before the delivery end slot. Not only does it work well but it really is easier on the fingers than a stringed guitar.20 different sounds available. Some are fine.I have yet to try the midi aspects but from all accounts that should be fine.A few minor scuff marks. Other than that it is in pristine condition. It would be better if there was a way of turning off the fret LEDs. They are useful but there are occasions where they could be distracting.

A nice toy, but that's all.
I thought that this would be an easy way to learn to play guitar, but the buttons on the neck can be tricky to master. Maybe I have podgy fingers. The sound is Ok though and the various settings are easy enough to work out. But it's just a toy really.Note that it doesn't come with the usb-midi connector so you'll have to buy one of these as well (i.e. Yamaha UX16) if you want to download new sounds and songs from the internet.

A great little gadget
It's never going to be a guitar, but that is not why I bought it. I am programming strumming patterns into a sequencer for arranging purposes, and it does a very good job of sending the MIDI data out to the PC based sequencer. If you want to learn to play a guitar, you need to buy a guitar with real strings and real frets.
