Similar to Oster it works nice
This Brentwood arepera is replacing an Oster (Venezuela) Model: 4895-090.The old Oster suffered a Chernobyl meltdown, it partially melted (guessing the thermostat got stuck), but it did not catch fire (at least the plastic material seems to have fire retardants). The Oster Model: 4895-090 is the one that makes 4 of the mid-size thin arepas,The Brentwood Model AR-135 makes 6 arepas of a similar size as the Oster,The Oster Model: 4896-090, is the one that makes 6 arepas, I have only seen pictures of this in the Oster Venezuela web site and looks very similar to the Brentwood.Quality just fine, the Oster and the Brentwood are of similar quality, they share a similar design with all the good and the flaws.I am not sure, but I will say that both brands seems to be made by the same factory in China, they share the same finish which is a textured plastic which makes it hard to clean with time, the same timer with the same problems some time gets stuck. The Brentwood was missing 2 screws that hold the metal plates to the base, so I had to install them before my first use.Cooking arepas, I did not have any problems with the unit, of course it takes longer to make 6 arepas in a unit that has a larger metal mold than a unit which is smaller, and can only make 4 arepas. The issue is simple; your power outlet can carry a maximum of 1500 watts, so a bigger mold and more arepas with the same device wattage, translates to a longer cooking time. The instructions recommend that you preheat the mold for about 8 minutes before placing the mix in the mold, after that the actual cooking time for each batch of six that you make is between 10 - 12 minutes depending on your taste. Arepas did not get stuck in the Teflon covered mold.I'll give it 4 stars, It does the job and I am happy, the current price of $37 is right when I take in consideration the quality and finish.

Makes More at a Time, Takes a Little Longer, Nice Thin Arepas. We Like!
I agree with many of the other reviewers, it does take longer to cook than with the old Oster we had. This does appear to be because the same heating element is used for the 6-arepa version as the 4-arepa. Note that when we looked on ostervenezuela.com (you cannot seem to find the arepa makers on the regular oster.com site), the 6-arepa maker they advertise there as an Oster appears to be this exact machine. Go figure. We do like that it makes the thinner arepas. I especially do, as I always ended up scooping out the insides from the old machine's arepas. Overall, we are very happy with this machine so far.

Can I give NO stars?
Do not buy this product!Getting my money back, I have read the reviews and took a chance.. Well, I'm glad I can count on Amazon to get my money back! (Have not asked for it yet..) here is my review:Arrived on time, (thanks Amazon) first time I tried to use it followed all the nonsense directions from the manufacturer every time they reply here to the negative reviews... Plugged and waited for the product to be hot 10-15 min, we are now ansious wating another 15 min (giving the product a chance) 20 min later we opened the "Brentwood arepamaker" and the Arepas were "cooked?" On the top and completely raw in the bottom... Unless I didn't follow another excuse from the manufacturer (sorry everyone I meant to say direction) the bottom section of this product was kind of warm (cold to the touch) bottom part was not working.... I will add pictures so you can see the quality of the raw plastic... Etc... Oh and cord is extremely short.... Extremely.... ShortThis product wasted my Sunday morning!Product arrived dirty, glue residues in some places, see pictures, the pictures with Arepas you can see when we flip them and the raw part is on top...Another company with a lack of quality control...Yo en tu lugar después de haber experimentado con este producto no perdería mi tiempo.Quizás tuve uno defectuoso, pero después de haber leído las otras críticas estoy de acuerdo que este producto no tiene control de calidad....

So far not good.
Ok here is what happened: This product is meant to replace my old Oster arepa cooker. The package arrived alright sealed tight with no issue. First thing you notice is the very strong metal smell giving you the instant feeling that you need to wash the hell out of the cooking metal. But since the design makes it impossible to separate the metal from the frame, you have to go the old fashion way. I used 16 sheets of paper towel with water a soap and I still keep getting the grey thing on the picture. I decided to turn the thing on, just to realized the strong chemical and metal stench coming out of it...The metal doesn't seem to be treated for anti sticking and after trying to clean the metal residue over and over again without being able to get rid of it, I am planning to return the article, feels like it was made with cheap metal residues and left overs.

and either have great arepas plain or use them to make sandwiches
It works very well. I gave it as a gift to my daughter in law, who makes arepas by hand. This allows her to fix the arepas ahead of time, then cook them whenever and wherever she wants. You can take it with you to a friend's house or to work, and either have great arepas plain or use them to make sandwiches. Great idea! and for those not familiar with arepas, this is corn flour, no yeast, break. You should try it. Found primarily in Venezuela and Colombia, a healthy gluten free food.

Arepas made easy!
So far so good! We've had family arepa night three times since purchase and they have turned out great each time, golden brown on the outside and soft in the middle. Clean up is quick and easy. Only downside is the latch is slightly off center which makes it a little hard to close but doesn't affect the function of the machine. Would recommend.

It's okay :s
I was expecting better quality for the amount I paid for. When I opened the box, the arepa maker was dirty like somebody opened and maybe fixed. I am not sure any way I will use it and I certainly will let you know if work.

I've bought two of these over the past 2 years.
They've never lasted more than a year with occasional use. Save your money, buy a different brand.
