Awesome
Seriously awesome knife. Much more robust, comfortable, and easy to grip handle than the original tactical grips. Perfect for camping or general outdoor use. Tested it out camping this past weekend. Not a great food slicer but good enough. Came shaving sharp. The sheath fit was too tight at first and I was worried because I couldn't remove the knife with one hand. After a few dozen times though, it loosens up and is perfect but still holds it tight enough to where I'm not worried about no button clasp or other way to secure the knife. Short of being strung upside down and violently shaken, the knife isn't going anywhere. Just make sure to keep the blade clean and lubed with a dry lube like TUF-GLIDE or mineral oil if you plan to use it on any food. This is 1095 carbon steel, not stainless steel. But that's ok because 1095 is a man's blade.UPDATE 8/14/17: I have used this knife now thru about 20 nights of camping on a half dozen trips in dry heat, rain, snow, etc. and it's held up flawlessly. I have other amazing fixed blades by Buck and Morakniv, as well as a slew of Kershaw and high end Spyderco folders, but the ESEE-3 HM is my favorite. After each trip I briefly touch it up with fine ceramic rods at 25 degrees to give it a 50 degree micro bevel (primary edge is 40-44 degrees and comes that way from the factory). In seconds it's right back to shaving sharp with virtually no metal removed. I find a micro bevel to be the superior way to go for many reasons. YouTube has some videos if you'd like to look more into why. The micarta handle on this is also outstanding. Besides feeling extremely comfortable in the hand and being virtually indestructible, it cleans up perfectly. Even after a weekend in the woods with dirt, mud, butter, grease, etc. getting rubbed into the handle, a quick scrub at home with a blue scotch bright sponge and dish soap returns it to it's factory fresh look. Love this knife.

Huge leap forward
ESEE really knocked these new HM models out of the park. I liked the regular ESEE 3 but this version is fantastic. The new, thicker scales are perfectly textured, fill the hand beautifully and you won't be able to put it down. It just wants to go out and work. It's like a super-sized Izula-II which I've always dreamed about. To make this knife even better, make a version with a 90 degree spine and patina instead of the coating. I would buy 3!

Best esee of them all
Better than the 4hm. Much more nimble and a way better slicer. The 4 is a bit overbuilt for most 4” or less knife tasks.

It really is a comfortable blade to use
This is my go to piece of steel on my day hikes. It really is a comfortable blade to use. I have a lot of fixed blades in my collection but this by far is my go to blade for edc tasks around the house and for day hikes in the woods. I used it as my steak knife the other evening and it performed as expected. Keep the blade oiled and it being 1095 it holds an edge really well.

You just can't beat an ESEE knife. If they have a configuration that you want, you won't be sorry buying one. My only possible "complaint" (I hesitate to call it that) is the texture of the blade coating. I guess I prefer a smooth blade, whereas their coating makes it "pebbly". I haven't noticed that this in any way compromises its effectiveness, however.
