So easy even a girl can use them!
For people having trouble - don't give up! It took me three tries before i got him. I did follow all the "instructions" with the back to back method, etc - but there is such an intense network of tunnels close to the surface - and the trap is much larger than the tunnels - that it wasn't working for me. My second try - he tripped the trap, but the grass root balls directly above the trap kept the mechanism from going the full motion and he got away. - after burying the traps, inside and out, with dirt. After i was pretty sure which tunnel he'd gone down, i dug out just enough for the trap to fit. I put the opening of the trap against the mouth of the tunnel, dropped a few carrots behind the trap to entice him to go in and check out that delicious aroma and then filled all around the back and sides of the trap with loose dirt. i took the grass mounds i'd cut away and put them around the top of the opening, then put a piece of plywood over top with a cinder block to weigh it down. Kept light and fresh air out - as well as my dogs. I didn't actually sit there timing it - but i got him within ~10 hours.Cheaper, faster and safer than the smoke bombs - that don't work. Less messy than repeatedly flooding the holes with water, turning the entire yard into a swamp. Was a little gross - but worth it!** 08/21 updatelast night i got a second gopher, this one was a pocket gopher and his tunnels were much wider than the trap. My first attempt - he went around the trap and completely buried it. My second try i wedged a carrot in the hole so he had no choice but to go inside - at which time, he met his doom.I've found i can trust my dogs to tell me which direction to put the trap. So far they've nailed it 2 out of 2.

The advertised trap is a 0625, but received a 0626 trap instead.
The 0626 trap is very similar to the 0625 trap except how the trigger mechanism works. Hopefully 0626 trigger will be as good as the 0625 trap. I don't have any experience with either model at this date. I don't want to wait and send it back for a replacement, as I have a mole or gopher in my crawl space right now.

Set the trap with a hair trigger and cover all areas that light can get in other than the end hole
Love this version of the Victor “The Black Box Gopher Trap”. The newer version isn’t as well built and won’t last as long as the older version. I have 6 of these and 4 of the tube type traps and by far I trap more with this unit. The main trick to using these is setting the trip to be hair trigger and to make sure no extra light gets in other than from the hole at one end. I like using a dirty wet service rag to cover the top of the trap with a little dirt sprinkled on top of it. My count so far this year is 52 and I’ll probably get 10 more before fall. The only problem I’ve been having over the past few years is coyotes picking up the trap with the gopher in it and carrying my trap off to who knows where. I’ve lost 3 of them because of coyotes.

Good in theory
Easy to set and deploy. Ive trapped lots of gophers so im not new to this. Ive been looking for something more consistent. I watched a bunch of videos of people having great success with these. Ive deployed them at least 10 times and not one capture. Ive tried all the tips to catch gophers. They just fill the traps with dirt without setting it off. Traps are goo quality and not flimsy at all. Maybe you will have better luck

These will work if you make the effort
..but I just don’t have the time to resort to a construction dig every time I need to eliminate a gopher. First I really don’t have anything against gophers but they are a big danger in a horse pasture so they must go. In order for these traps to work you really need to put two back to back on the gophers main tunnel. Feeding tunnels have the fresh dirt mounds around them but Mr. Gopher will plug those up quickly and move on. Even if you find an open (active) feeding tunnel in which to place your trap there is a pretty good chance the critter will backfill the box trap with dirt. They are smarter than they ought to be. The main tunnel can be quite a bit deeper than the feeding tunnels so once you scope around for it prepare to dig a bit in order to set the traps. The tunnels are hardly ever level or straight so setting these two square traps so the catch bar is on the tunnel floor and the trigger is unimpeded is not as easy as it seems especially in hard ground. I think all the ground disturbance from the digging scares the gopher away honestly. I have given up on a spot after almost a week and then had the delightful task of backfilling my hole and starting over. I finally bought a gopher hawk and got the darn thing in two days. Anyone want some slightly used box traps? I’m not saying they don’t work, I just didn’t have the energy to keep digging.

Block out the light.
Amazing. I got 3 gophers in 4 days. You need to prod the ground to find the hole. Put 2 back to back put dirt around the sides of the trap, a little peanut butter and plywood or something over the hole to block out light. Make sure the mechanism is free to do what it does. And dead gopher. Mine are usually within a couple hours.Oh and if you reuse them, rinse them off. idk if they can smell the death on it but they’ll just jam them full of dirt if you don’t.

Very easy to use and works!
Used this trap to catch the gopher tearing up our yard. It was very easy to set and place. I dug down in the active mound until I found the entrance to the tunnel. It’s recommended to place two back to back, but I only found one side of the tunnel so I just placed one. I set it in the evening and I checked back in the morning. Got it on the first try! Very pleased with this product.

The Master
Gophers don't stand a chance. As soon as I see the dirt mound, a rush of adrenaline flows through my veins. Time to break out the traps.Within a few short days, the trap is sprung and the gopher has taken its rightful place in gopher hell.Lather, rinse, repeat.
