Review of YOST LV-4 Bench Vise - How I Fixed the Slop In The Pivot.
Let me begin by saying that I think Yost makes a fine line of vises. Please read my review of the superb Yost RIA-4 bench vise - undoubtedly the Cadillac of small bench vises. Which makes Yost's apparent indifference to the well-documented complaints of slop in the LV-4 swivel pivot so hard to understand. My brand-new Model LV-4 arrived his afternoon, and the slop in the swivel pivot was obvious. As many reviewers have noted, this looseness makes it almost impossible to secure the vise against movement, and also puts unnecessary strain on the single pivot clamp, which users tend to tighten with max force in an effort to hold the vise still. A clear lose-lose that is so simple to fix!I discussed this problem with Yost customer service, and the person I spoke with was quite pleasant and friendly but dismissed the matter as possible tooling wear. Which is nonsense.Fortunately, I had a simple fix. Simple, that is, if you happen to have a scrap piece of thinwall copper or aluminum tubing. Which, by the way, is the deeply satisfying answer to your Significant Other asking you why you keep all that junk, to which you usually answer "Because I might need it some day."Well, that Some Day arrived this afternoon! Please see the two attached photos.I cut a short piece from a length of thinwall aluminum tubing that I knew, Just Knew, I would need someday. The tubing wasn't exactly the right diameter, so I split it lengthwise and slipped it over the pivot bolt that secures the body of the vise to the base. Voila!! no more slop! Now, much as I admire the Yost product line, I cannot justify, in my mind, their refusal to fix this dead-simple problem. I do resent having to fix a brand-new vise to correct an obvious manufacturer's oversight. A simple bushing in copper, brass, or aluminum, would cost Yost a couple of pennies, at most. But they evidently have chosen to ignore the many complaints by loyal users, and instead allow the vise to shift position unexpectedly, possibly compromising the work piece. Even offering it for a dollar as an after-market item would be nice.....Anyway, all's well that ends well....etc. I hope that this review is helpful. It should be possible to find a bushing of the correct diameter (length might be a problem). But I worked with what I had on hand.

Perfect for gun-smithing and light home imporvement work.
Solid build and easily installed. I put it at the end of my work bench and it has already helped me immensley on one AR build and ready to be used for upgrades and help friends. The swivel really comes in handy, and everything is solid if you tighten to a stop.

Whatever you do don't use it as a vice it won't work
Great vice until you try to use it like one!!! Donely thing you can expect from advice is to tighten down and things you wanted to hold well I don't consider myself to be overly strong but just with my hands cranking down on this device I snapped the jar right off of it I am completely shocked I thought this was going to be a good little vice

Perfect small AR-15 gun-smithing vice!
My AR-15 bench vise setup. I don't have a garage so I have to make things work and this little vice gets the job done! No problem at all holding the AR-15 to remove the barrel nut, receiver extension castle nut or the muzzle break with this awesome inexpensive vice.

Cracked in the first hour of use.
The piece of junk cracked while flattening some aluminum tubing on the anvil. Ended up buying a 15 pound anvil for $12 at Harbor Freight and will stick with my carpenters vise to hold things.

Inexpensive & Practical Bench Vise For The Price... Suits My Needs & Works Good.
Ok, I really feel this is going to suit my needs... to build and maintain AR-15 carbines, pistols, etc. The bonus in my opinion is the pipe jaws (Reaction Rod, or similar??) just below the main vise jaws, and something you don't usually get on inexpensive vises from "Big Box" stores. I mounted this to a 1/2" x 12" x 24" piece of birch plywood. Then "attached" it to a large plastic folding table (stowaway) for torquing down, and big jobs, and to make it modular... for smaller jobs I can just place the mounted vise on any table and do my work. The 9 lb. bench vise is perfect for this type of configuration for me and my limited space... without being cumbersome. The wiggle in the swivel lock that others have mentioned is still present in my vise, however that is why this product is so inexpensive... if you know that going into the purchase then it is what it is, and you can fix (easy) it if you can, or want to. For the price... it is worth it.

Won’t buy it again
Thought this would be a good vise being it’s made from yost but the front of it popped off while I was trying to use this to hold a Piece of pipe.

Good vice
Works well for what I am using it for. Not a big vice but if I wanted a bigger one I would have bought a 6 inch.

Great vice for the money
Very well packaged vice at a good price. I bought this as a second vice. One that I could use on the welding bench and not worry about and so far have had no issues.
