It is a very fun and portable instrument
It is a very fun and portable instrument. Everyone is curious about it when I take it with me, and people gets surprised for its beautiful sound (perhaps they think it is toy, but no, this is a real instrument). I really love it, since I already play guitar I only have to make a conversion on the chords for its tuning. I would say this was my best acquisition in 2016.

Great
Super awesome if you want to learn guitar fingerings in a smaller package. This guitar is tuned a fourth higher than I normal guitar. You can actually tune this down to a typical guitar tuning and it is playable (though a little floppy). Great to learn and a very fun sound. It is richer than a ukulele but brighter than a guitar. A must buy for an enthusiast!

MORE FUN THAN I HAVE HAD IN AGES
I can not put this down! It is fun to play, well made and has a nice tone. The only sad spot is the case - it unzips around the lower bout but not all the way, so the opening is sort of tight. This was an amazing deal!

Guitalele is great, but the kit doesn't make sense.
I've owned one of these guitaleles for over a year, and quite like it. These instruments have a sound that is somewhere between a classical guitar and a uke, and are very portable. I recently sold mine because I wanted some cash to pay bills, but am seriously thinking of buying another one. Some important things to know:The G string on the guitalele is an octave lover than the G string on a uke, but you can still play uke chords and the notes will be correct, as long as you don't strum the two lowest-pitched strings. Ukes only have 4 strings. If you strum all six strings while playing a uke chord (on only four strings), you will not like the sound. You can find some chord charts for guitaleles online. You can play guitar chord shapes, but because this instrument is tuned differently than a guitar, the chord names and tones will not be the same as on a guitar. If you want to jam with a guitarist, ask the guitarist to put a capo on the 5th fret of his or her guitar. That way, you will be in tune with each other.I've giving this kit three stars because the kit, as shown on 3/26/16, contains some things which will not help. If I were just rating the instrument, I would give it 5 stars. This instrument is tuned in A. Guitars are tuned in E. Don't drop the tuning of the guitalele down to E, it won't sound good, and the string tension will be too loose. If you are playing along with the DVD, what you are playing won't sound right, since the guitalele and guitar are tuned differently.. The DVD is meant for those who are learning guitar. Also, the strings included are not the kind you are supposed to put on this instrument. These strings are meant for steel string acoustic guitars. There are two kinds of strings that will work on this instrument: classical guitar strings (nylon), or special guilele (some versions of this instrument are called guilele, not guitalele) strings made by Aquila. The Aquila strings are made of something called Nylgut, which is a "synthetic plastic compound," according to the Aquila string listings. The Aquila strings are like uke strings. These will make your instrument sound more like a ukulele than classical guitar strings. This might be a good thing, depending on your preference. The bad thing about these strings is they don't stay in tune well, at least not in my experience. These instruments come equipped with classical guitar strings (or at least mine did), and that is what I suggest as replacement strings if you break one or more. Any brand of classical strings will do. Some guitalele players prefer high tension nylon strings, and others say normal tension classical strings are fine. I've just bought normal tension classical nylon strings.Classical strings will be twice as long as you need. After you've replaced a string on your guitalele, you'll need to trim back the classical string. This won't be a problem. It is a good idea to find a string peg winder that is also a string cutter. Two tools in one. Please don't put the strings that come with this kit on your instrument. You might mess up the neck. All-metal strings create more tension on the neck than nylon strings do. This is why people who own classical guitar strings don't put metal strings on them.Even if you give away or sell the strings and DVD, this kit is still a good deal, if the price stays at $99. You'll still be getting some useful accessories. I paid $99 for my instrument, and it only came with a non-padded gig bag.One last thing worth mentioning.. if you want to play one of these with a strap, get a strap peg installed on the back end of the instrument, and put a strap adapter on your strap (or use a shoe string). Some straps come with little ties. You'll need something to thread through the front hole of your strap, and tie around the headstock of the guitalele.

Great little instrument.
Got this for my girlfriend who knows how to play ukulele but is trying to learn guitar. Thought it would make for a good transition. It's very fun to play, stays in tune, and sounds great. Thinking of getting one to take to the office for myself.

Every ukulele player needs one of these!!!
love it love it love it! I am a long time ukulele player and "former" guitar player..And sometimes I want my instrument to have a bit more "oomf" to it than what I can get from my regular soprano...Also..it is nice to not completely forget how to play the regular guitar...It is easy on the hands..Smaller than a baritone ukulele...The pack comes with great accessories...The register that it is tuned in is perfect for my vocal range...yada yada yada...Just Get one..if you have the money...do it..you won't regret it..

Our grandson loves the Guitalele!
The Guitalele was a Christmas present for our 15 year old grandson. He is delighted with it and was amazed that the tuner, stand, case etc came with it. He tuned it right up and started playing. The other members of his band came over to practice with all their new instruments and we had a great time listening to them play. "One of the best gifts ever Grandma!" was his comment.
