This is the 9th edition of Oxford Dictionary, last revised and updated in 2015 printed in India (photos added) and comes with a DVD which has iSpeaker & iWriter useful for English learners.Speaking of the print and paper quality, the paper is quite thin, you are able to see the print through from later pages which is not surprising because this book has close to 2000 pages. But the pages are white and the black and blue ink used keeps things deep in contrast which is good.Will this dictionary last long? This is a paperback edition and I paid Rs.318 which I think is just a superb bargain to overlook that. If you are a person like me who just bought to replace a decade old dictionary from the library and you carefully turn pages, of course it will last forever.And besides, who uses Print Dictionaries in 2015 ? boost for my English knowledge

Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is the first of its kind when it was introduced. It was prepared by A.S Thornby. The concept was unique and was meant for learning vocabulary, collocations and grammatical patterns, especially, verb patterns. For the first time, I bought the 3rd Edition along with Hornby's another sought after work "Guide to Patterns and Usage in English".Those two books helped me much in learning how English works. Later, the knowledge I gained through these books helped me in my teaching career. Still, I love those two books together above all in my collection. Of course, now, there have been several editions and finally the 9th one, yet it kept the essence of Hornby's spirit. I love it in every respect. This time, I bought this as a gift for a student who stood first in her class.I highly recommend this for anyone who is serious in learning English.

I went with the older edition for the DVD, which i believed is a better choice than one year free online subscription that comes with the latest edition. As for the quality, as some have mentioned, the pages are thin. But i think that is unavoidable, otherwise this will come inn two volumes. However, there is no issue with the print quality. Highly recommend the bigger version of the dictionary than the concise ones for a learner.

Excellent......!!!!They've categorised the commonly used words, academic words etc. To much examples of sentences are given. It contains much extra information about time, date, years, grammar, writing etc... It is the best product to learn correct pronunciations too... It includes phonetic symbols and comes with a DVD 📀... It teaches how the Indian speakers speak incorrect English and how to speak effective English... Go for it...

I am already having 5th edition of OALD. In my opinion this 9th edition is not as good as the 5th when we consider the definitions for headwords and their examples. For many words the older edition has numerous typical examples but in newer edition only definition are given to my disappointment. For a learner example sentences are vital for they provide context imitating those examples a learner can use new words in life situations. Even the definitions also given in a roundabout way which lacks clarity and lucidness. This edition has many new words and it also has some rare words which are not handy for learners. Once OALD remained the pioneer in publishing learner's dictionary but I think it is slowly losing its hold. There are so many other equally good or even better dictionaries in market like CALD, LDOCE, MWDOEL. As for as examples or concern Merriam Webster provide nearly 160000 but Oxford only 90000.

Very essential and needed dictionary for every houses. It's almost a comprehensive book atleast for school kids and it's very useful for developing the vocabulary skills.
