Great replacement
Great replacement. I could keep my period doors and secure them again. Love it!

Does not hold up over time
In less than 2 years of service, this replacement mortise latch only opens when turned one way, and clicks when turned the other. That said, it works better than the latch it replaced, which did not open either way, but the previous (original) latch had lasted 40 years. With the cost of these mortise latches, I will be considering a modern hollow core door as a replacement because the modern knob/ latch combo you can get ANYWHERE have a long reliable life. Very disappointing after spending an hour chiseling out the old mortise hole larger to accommodate this replacement. Nostalgia has a price limit, and these shoddy latches have killed the nostalgic value.

Great lock
Great lock and super easy install! The quality is excellent and the finish is lovely. The bottom part on the lock though (the gold color part) was a bit too long for the existing lock cutout in my door so I had to go with another lock. But otherwise, I recommend this lock set.

This new one arrived broken...
I've purchased this exact product before (First Watch brand) and it had worked great, but the keys were lost, so I had to replace it. The replacement which just arrived was defective - the bolt which slides when the door knob turns, occasionally caught inside of the housing. On inspection, I see that the two weld points were akimbo, so one side is lower, and jams.I was able to salvage parts from the original one, and combine with this new one to get it to work, but had they not been identical, this would have been a failure.3 start on account of the original one from a few years ago still working.

Looks good and works great.
Looks good and works great. But easily noticable when the rest of the parts are tarnished on the old door.

Absolute garbage
Purchased this product and it is slightly larger than the opening for the mortise I was replacing. No problem - i chiseled it out a bit larger and inserted the new mortise lock. As soon as I tested it the latch gets stuck inside the door. Fiddled with it for awhile and tried to get it to work but it's designed so poorly that it sticks every time. And don't even try to reverse it to fit a left handed door - it's even worse. Complete garbage. Don't throw your money out the window, spend the extra $10 bucks and buy something that works. I went out and bought a $20 mortise lock from defiant and it worked perfectly!
