Yes you can , but normally this fan is exhausting and yo dont need a filter. The best way would be to extend the shell out beyond the motor and make a track for the filter.

This works great, takes a beating, and has been a workhorse. The only downside is that the overall width is about a 1/8"-1/4" too wide to fit between 16" on center stud spacing without some extra persuasion.
