Modifications. 2 people can now crank at once and it works well.
Yes this is long but addresses most shortcomings.Mounted directly to the top of my tailgate on a 2017 Titan Xd.. 8ft bed. I cut a piece of 3/4 p.t. plywood into 2x8 sheets and have them leaning to either side to direct the mulch away from the wheel well humps. I'll switch thick sheets of something slicker like hdpe later and perhaps full sheets. So far mulch/compost. Afraid to try gravel.I didn't like the strap on brackets one bit because my tailgate is curved. Also, if you have a spray in bedliner, you need something slick. While cranking, I found the shaft pole was bowing in the middle (under pressure) and causing the drag mat to track toward the passenger side and snag. Here are my improvements.Bought an 1/8 inch thick 4 x 10 sheet of black uhmw plastic and attached preslotted angle to the underside with carriage bolts through the top, locknuts underside. Polish the carriage bolt heads first so they don't snag the drag mat and tighten so the edged of the head are flush.I used 9 equally spaced fasteners. This provides a slick stable surface and the angle keeps the mat from pulling loose. A thicker piece would be better though because in some situations, the plastic could lift between the front of the bed and back of the bed.White uhmw might have been slicker???My tailgate cap blew away months ago so I took a couple pieces of steel and marked from the underside for precise holes and cut off and smoothed some of the sharp edges along with precisely drilled mounting holes.I used carriage bolts with internal serrated washers from the underside to secure with washers and nylon lock nuts above. I then figured out where to drill holes for the shaft bearing holders and removed the plates, drilled precise holes and installed short wheel studs from the underside and remounted both plates . Then I added 2 pair of ubolt clamps plates per mount plate to raise the mechanism so the mat could roll up without binding. Installed bearing housing clamps and lockouts. Done.I have exactly 4 feet between plates so I'm not catching the mat on the mount plate edges and I'll make a new cap to fill the 4 ft void.Lastly, I bought an extra drive dog and handle assembly and die cut M24- 2 pitch threads on the passenger side of the loadhandler and torqued down the new drive dog and used high strength thread lock. If it comes loose, I'll re-thread lock and drill to install an expansion roll pin through the dog and shaft.Ideally, the passenger side would be reverse threaded for a reverse thread drive dog. I made it work. With fairly dry compost mulch hill piled to the top of the cab, I pulled my last 6 loads off in 10 minutes each.

Pleasant Surprise, 2011 Ram 1500...Works Great,Few Suggestions
Let me start off by saying i purchased the harbor freight version of this first, that does not fit the oddly shaped tailgates on the Ram 1500: returned that and went with this..I am glad it didn't fit this load handler although more money is constructed far superior to the junk I returned, its fully adjustable and fits great as well..Its constructed of steel instead of plastic and has bearings instead of makeshift plastic bushings..So as far as its construction i give it an A+,I did read about spray liners being a problem with heavier loads as well as product making its way off the drag sheet,so what I did was purchased a piece of 3/8 duraply(very smooth and handles elements well)and laid it into the bed(that takes care of the spray liner problem)next before pulling the drag sheet out I lay a blue tarp down,I like to come up and over the bedsides, next I lay the drag sheet down on top of tarp.I now load my product, mulch, firewood soil etc etc...I cover the product with the excess tarp that was laying over the bed sides....Ok time to unload,a dream..open up tarp, install crank handle, crank out product, whatever falls off drag sheet is caught in tarp, not a lot but some, when done cranking the drag sheet you just pull out the tarp removing whatever remaining product or debris....now my truck is a 1500 I am not crowning the bed with gravel or soil but good loads non the less..It works great and you will be glad you got it,not to mention the time you save,as well as your back...Just one more suggestion, when your done using it take it off the truck dont leave it on:what happens is dust and debri gets under the foam on the steel mounts and will scratch your tailgate in short order....Hope this Helps, good luck

Load Handler Install and Use
I was a little leery on ordering for a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Shortbed Pickup because it has the bowed out tailgate and I wasn't sure about the thickness measurement. Not to worry. The bracket legs are attached to the bearing main plate by one bolt, each side, through the bracket leg in a long slot to allow for tailgate thickness differences. It also allows the outer bracket to swivel to match the curve of the tailgate so it lies flat on the outside curve. The outer bracket leg is also angled (not 90 deg.) to allow for the slope of the top of the tailgate. Installation was easy following the directions. The only not included items were 2 1''x1" wood blocks to hold the brackets off the tailgate cap during installation. It would be helpful to have a second person available to provide tension on the drag sheet when initially rolling it on the roller and assist holding the assembly during final fitting. Once assembled and fit, one person can pop it off and on again. The only difficult chore is threading the hold down straps through the tailgate- bed joint. Patience rules. In use when going to dump, it is best to attach the bumper tie downs to the hold down straps while the tailgate is up and then lower the tailgate, hook the bottom of the bumper, and snug them up. That way you don't have to crawl under the lowered tailgate. My second use involved just shy of 900lbs of dirt and the cranking with one hand while the other was hanging on to the top rear edge of the tailgate and the going was somewhat stiff, yet very doable. All in all, The unit worked as advertised and is a lot less expensive than a dump bed trailer. Just remember to keep everything clean (a whisk broom comes in handy at the dump site). It is nice to have a Double Mat. They clean up very easily and elevate the drag surface so excess material stays off to the side.
