In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul.

Less Expensive Can be Better for Your Feet
For years, my feet have ached at the end of the day. Seeking a solution, I read countless reviews, perused list after list of the "best" walking or running shoes, and tried more than half a dozen of the top recommended products. I've got pairs of Asics Gel Cumulus, Nimbus and Kayano sitting, virtually unused, in my closet. Then a friend suggested I try something radical. Instead of going for ever more expensive shoes, he suggested trying these Gel-Contend shoes.I need to do something nice for my buddy because these shoes, though costing less than a third of some other shoes I've purchased, actually leave my feet feeling less tired and achy than it's more expensive brethren. I strongly endorse these, and as an added bonus, I will say they fit well (although I always have to buy a full size larger than for dress shoes), and come in enough colors to satisfy nearly everyone.I use these mostly for walking, but I do some running and gym work in them as well. They are very comfortable, have the support I need, have held up well, and keep my feet feeling great, too.

Great shoes and a great prices.
I've been wearing various ASICS running shoes for years. I like them my podiatrist likes them and they are reasonable. I've run my 9th & 10th marathons using them (at ages 65 and age 70).EVERY running shoe, regardless of brand (usually Nike or New Balance) that I've worn as far back as I can remember has been a 10 1/2 while my "street shoes have been 9 1/2."The design of the shoes includes a long "tongue" and a long "lace guard" allowing the "throat" of the shoes to be longer and comfortable accommodate wearing no orthotics sometimes and wearing thin plastic or fiberglass type of orthotics at other times.I suspect that the larger "soft" orthotics that are generally made by standing on foam to create a rubber mold and are physically larger than the firmer smaller orthotics would require a slightly larger size shoe.I wash them in our washing machine in the heavy duty setting and "warm" temperature "hot" can loosen the adhesive holding the front and rear of the soles to the body of the shoe. I spray the really dirty parts with Oxyclean, Shout or other spotting spray and ADD NO OTHER DETERGENT. They dry well with a fan blowing down on the shoes. Stuffing the shoes with newspaper paper which is very absorptive. Magazine paper does not absorb well.

Solid running shoe; as expected.
Good shoes for moderate runner (I rack up about 800 miles/year which equates to 15-20 miles a week). The support is exactly what I needed and they took about 30 miles before I noticed a complete break in. Very happy with the quality of the shoe. It breathes well and support is good.

Comfortable - beware the size
ASICS run small. I wear a 9 1/2 street shoe, and a 10 in this shoe is just a little on the snug side. This isn't the first ASICS I have had in the last few years, so I expected it. It seems the manufacturer fell in love with the idea of "sock fit" a few years ago. Years ago, ASICS didn't have the problem. They are comfortable for my daily jog as I'm no longer a competitive runner. A serious runner will probably go for a higher end shoe.

Excellent budget shoe.......
I am a wise shopper on a tight budget. After many heart attacks, I decided to get more exercise on a treadmill. I needed a good shoe, but not spend an arm & a leg. I also wanted a nicely cushioned shoe. I researched on-line, googled all sorts of runner's sites in order to get the best info I could on all the usual suspects...Nike, New Balance, Reebok, Brooks, Saucony & Asics. For quality of shoe, adequate amount of cushion, and comfort, all of which at an affordable price, the Asics Gel-Contend 4 met all of my criteria. It was even mentioned as one of the most comfy running shoes on a runner's site I perused. So I placed the order. I received the shoes, put them on, laced them up, and I took a few steps. I knew at that moment I made a good choice. After 30 minutes on a treadmill, I knew I made a FANTASTIC choice. I am very happy with this Asics Gel-Contend 4 running shoe.

Watch out this is not a running shoe.
I bought these trainers, thinking they were trainers from Asics. They were cheaper than trainers, 45 Dollar. I use them at work , as I work 12-14 hours on my feet. So I need real trainers, and these are not. They are ,what they say: Everyday comfort. Not trainers. My feet felt like I was walking on burning coal at the end of the day, obviously because the materials are made for exactly for that everyday comfort. And as such , they are fine. I use them at home all the time, but not for work, because that is li like training.

No complaints -- Thumbs up for ASICS
I have had arch support issues my whole life and am a big fan of ASICS running shoes. Recently I ordered a pair of these for both my son and my spouse since the price was so reasonable. Both loved the shoes. My son has fairly large, wide feet so he appreciates a quality shoe that fits comfortably. My spouse used to wear mostly New Balance brand but I think these are his new favorite. He is super picky but he hasn't had one complaint.

Perfect! If you have wider feet, then look no further, and get these in 4E.
If you have a normal foot shape, and no biomechanical defects like overpronation or supination, these shoes will be perfect for you. I have wider feet that are wide in the mid-foot (not in the toes), and a Greek type of the foot, so these in 4E fit pefrectly. I had to return these because I bought a better different color and lower price from another seller. Asics rules!
