First impressions are excellent!
My trusty old Dualit 84009 gave up after 16 years faultless service so I was looking for a replacement to produce my favoured espresso hits to the same standard, I use both fresh ground coffee and ESE pods when time is short. After trialling a few other manufacturers offerings which were all somewhat underwhelming I ordered this despite the generally mediocre reviews and I am pleased to say that so far so good and I’m very impressed. The machine is reassuringly weighty and well styled with all the functions easily accessed from the front and top, no fumbling around the back for the power switch and the water tank is a decent size too.The temperature and dosing adjustments work really well ensuring the coffee produced is exactly how you like it, every time.Using your preferred fresh ground coffee is obviously best, produced with a perfect crema and piping hot. My normal ESE pods also give a very satisfying espresso without the prep and mess and most surprisingly I find the Dualit and compatible Nespresso pods also give a very enjoyable espresso, the machine comes with the capsule piercing tool for non Dualit capsules, Nespresso capsules work just fine when pierced before use.I don’t use the milk frother and live in a very soft water area so cannot comment on the steaming aspect nor the descaling requirements other than confirm that a small stainless steel milk jug was included in the box.Assuming this machine proves reliable it will be a keeper and I am really enjoying the coffee it makes, now realising how worn out the pump on my old machine had become.

Not up to standard
After just over a year the machine no longer froths the milk and the mechanism that punches the hole in the coffee pod has also broken…. Rendering it useless!

Great coffee machine
Bought this as a replacement for our old machine. Easy to use and makes great tasting coffee. There is a good crema on top. Not as quiet as described but it is only when you first turn it on. Good value.

Impressive
Bought this as a replacement for our filter coffee machine which recently died. Had no idea coffee machine choices had become so varied these days... particularly if you want something that has the added convenience of doing 'pod' or 'capsule' type coffee... but after having done a bit of homework, I decided to go for this as it seems to do everything we need, especially once we realised that we don't just make 'pots of coffee' anymore.Okay... so have to admit, some of this decision was brand-driven - we have a couple of Dualit products that have been bulletproof and there's [so far] no reason why this won't follow form - but largely it was down to the compatibility with ESE and [sort of] Nespresso (useful for giving visitors a decent cup of Joe)... as well as being able to use all the many-available ground coffees without having to fill a filter up. Also a big hit with the kids as this one can froth milk up a treat so they're loving the 'Bambichinos' in the mornings.Easy to use. Easy to clean. And it makes fantastic coffee. Very impressed.

Great looking, diverse coffee machine that makes a fantastic espresso
Bought this to directly replace the same model we'd had for 7 and a half years. Estimate the last one made about 7,000 cups of coffee before expiring!Tried a higher rated machine as a replacement first, but it simply didn't compare. This makes superb coffee, is solid and stylish and if the last one is anything to by, lasts years (if descaled regularly). Hoping the manufacturing quality hasn't gone downhill in the last 7 years!

Don’t buy this!
Do NOT buy. This thing is dangerous and Dualit don’t care.Bought this machine because I wanted to buy british. Well that was a mistake! Coffee from this machine is OK, but no better than my previous machine, a £50 aisle of discovery special from Aldi. This one was £200 quid though. Broke down after a few months. Dualit couldn’t care less, when I ‘phoned them and were rude and offhand. They told me that as I hadn’t signed their guarantee form it wasn’t their problem. Obviously no lawyers! So got a fast easy, no fuss replacement from Amazon as I thought I’d jut got a dud machine. Now this machine has has gone. Smelled of overheating, as if just about to catch fire, so I switched off at the mains and it never came on again after cooling down. This time I had filled in the form in the box, but Dualit helpfully informed me that it wasn’t a guarantee and they weren’t interested in the fact that it gad broken down. Amazon again stepped up and this time I took my money back because I don’t want anything to do with a company that:Sells goods which are not of merchantable quality and not fit for purpose.Has no interest in improving them.Doesn’t care enough to even listen to its customers. Is culturally hostile to its customersPalms its responsibilities off onto someone else

Great coffee machine
As other reviews may have said - you are commiiting yourself to learning what can amount to almost a hobby. So to get the best out of the machine, read the instruction book thoroughly and experiment with different coffees. The milk frother does a good job - I hvae foumd that just before it produces steam there is a small amount of hot water that is put through the steam wand - I don't let this go into the milk so you get a better result.Take time with this machine and you won't be disappointed - there are lost of places selling the compatible pods too.I like having the optionof pods or using freshly ground coffee.

It took a while, but I am happy with it now.
It's a good machine, but I had to learn how to use it.It took me a few attempts before I managed to produce a coffee that was just how I like it and, because I didn't want to be locked in to drinking a particular brand of coffee, I was a bit disappointed to discover it really only takes Dualit NX capsules. If you want to drink other brands of coffee, you can do that with ground coffee and ESE pods but it doesn't seem to be possible to drink Nespresso. Now that I have got to know this machine, I am happy with it.
