The Strength of Love can Conquer All
River Jaymes has outdone herself on this one. I really liked the first one in this series, but this one was even more dramatic, emotional, and sexy. The two main characters, Tyler, physician of the Homeless and HIV, and Memphis, stuntman and model for sexy underwear, had a relationship 10 years ago, then Memphis walked out because of cancer. Tyler struggled with the way Memphis left with no indication as to why. 10 years later the two find themselves essentially thrown together due to a fundraiser for Tyler and Alec's Clinic. Tyler had initiated "the boyfriend mandate", which meant he would not get back together with exes after he and Alec had broken up. Tyler always seemed to run when any relationship got really serious. When Memphis comes back into the picture, Tyler struggles with his feelings for the man and determined not to even think about getting back with him especially since there was an ex-wife in the picture who was Memphis' manager. The moment Memphis saw Tyler, those feelings of the past resurfaced, and he was determined to apologize for leaving and let Tyler know why. The two men's attraction and love for one another struggled through getting to know one another esp since Tyler had his Boyfriend Mandate in place. The novel is Hot, very moving, and sweet. At first, since the first novel, I didn't really like Tyler too much, but this novel showed him in a total different light. He is a very deep feeling man and eventually realized by the help of Dylan (Alec's boyfriend) that he was in love with Memphis again or had he not stopped loving him from the beginning. Knowing he didn't want to give up Memphis again, Memphis lets him know that his two time cancer has showed up again and Memphis was determined to let it takes it's course without treatment. Memphis didn't want to put Tyler through all of this. With much pushing, shoving, and love on Tyler's part to get him to the doctor, he finally agrees to find out what they were up against. Tyler makes it known to Memphis he would be with him all the way. Their love for each other was definitely tested through these difficult times. Sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the diagnosis, this novel is definitely a page turner. River makes you feel you are right there struggling with them . If you love MM Love and Romance, you will love this. Hope there is a third coming because I can't wait. All the characters of the first follow through this one, and the characters are strong, unique men who shows what love is all about.

The Boyfriend Mandate - A Must Read in this series
4.5 StarsThe wait is over and was completely worth it for The Boyfriend Mandate, by River Jaymes. If you have read the first book in this series, The Backup Boyfriend, then you will be familiar with Dr. Tyler Hall, ex to Alec and ex to Memphis Haines, stunt man, and underwear model. River Jaymes continues this series bringing us into the lives of Tyler and Memphis. They were boyfriends 10 years ago, in college, and according to Tyler, really had something. Or so he thought until Memphis walks away and never returns. Tyler has tried to put the past behind him and move on but it’s hard to do when he doesn’t understand what went wrong.Things may have been a little easier to overlook for Tyler if Memphis wasn’t still just as gorgeous and sexy as he ever was. He still has the beautiful smile with dimples, tanned skin, and nicely cut muscles. Noah has made arrangements with Memphis to help with a commercial for the clinic. Tyler tries his best to get Memphis to forget the deal. Too many people are relying on his help so unfortunately Tyler will have to suck it up, for now. Surely he can be professional, do the deal, and walk away unscathed.Walking away is not in the cards for Memphis. Not this time, not now when his life is literally up for grabs. Memphis has or had cancer, twice, and so far has beaten it both times. However, it’s always on his mind and always a concern that it will come back. He knows he should have trusted Tyler more when they were in college. He knows he should have been honest and told him the truth as to why he walked away. He took the coward’s way out but now he is going to do everything in his power to rectify that mistake.Even though it was 10 years ago, Tyler was really hurt when Memphis never came back. He has carried that hurt with him all these years and after the catastrophe with Alec, he swore off any boyfriends he has already had. He’s also changed from the shy boy who followed Memphis anywhere. He knows what he wants and what he likes and he is more aggressive and not afraid to take what he wants. This only excited Memphis more and he loves seeing all of the new sides to Tyler. Taking the initiative and being dominant with Memphis for sex is a thrill both guys enjoy. They may have been apart for many years, but seeing each other again is bringing the testosterone levels to warp speed. Before anything gets too far off the ground, Memphis has a lot of explaining to do. He also has an ex-wife which Tyler really has trouble wrapping his head around. It opens up many questions and he wants answers from Memphis. He just doesn’t know if he gets the answers, are they going to be what he wants to hear. This was a fun, enjoyable read, and the sex is steamy hot. River has done a splendid job with Tyler and Memphis. The plot has many funny moments but it also has issues, serious issues that people face every day. She walks us through a day in the life of Tyler as he visits his patients on the streets. She really sheds a light on the homeless and how they face healthcare or lack of. Also, there are matters of cancer and issues that have to be faced and dealt with. If you’ve ever faced any of these things then you know that she handled it with great care. There was the issue of Memphis being married before, to a woman, and even though they are now divorced I really didn’t learn how that came to be. My only wish would be that this was a little better explained. There is a small degree of anguish to work through and it’s a little stressful for a bit, as we wait for test results to come back. It was quickly established that this time they would be together for whatever cards they faced. Nobody would be walking away which was a great relief. Alec, Dylan, and even Noah are on the sidelines lending their help and wisdom to Tyler. Even if he doesn’t want it most of the time, they give it anyway.Next up, will be Noah and Dr. Kyland Davis, Memphis’ oncologist. I will be waiting anxiously for their story. Noah has been a part of each book and so I feel like I know him pretty well. It will definitely be great addition to this series.

Add Memphis and Tyler to your list of book boyfriends!!!
I liked this book more than the first. I'm in love with Memphis, for sure! He is the perfect male character. He has the perfect combination of cocky arrogance and heartbreaking vulnerability. I truly loved everything about this story. I hadn't really cared for Tyler in The Backup Boyfriend, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to read his story. But boy, am I glad I did! I so enjoyed seeing him come undone. And I loved how Memphis pushed his buttons constantly. The elevator scene is definitely one of the best sex scenes I've ever read. It was absolutely phenomenal!Their love for each other was palpable. You could feel every emotion coming from both men. They really make a gorgeous and fantastic couple. The only thing is that I kept picturing Tyler as a blonde for some reason. The author makes it blatantly clear that he has black hair, lol.I have definitely found a new author to follow. I love River's style of writing. She has definitely perfected the art of putting you in the story instead of keeping you on the outskirts. Her descriptions are fantastic and she really has a way with words. I've had a hard time putting both books down.I will definitely be reading Noah's story whenever it comes out!

awesome!
Fantastic second book in the boyfriend chronicles series! The chemistry between Ty and Memphis was sizzling.I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this story because I couldn't warm up to Ice Man' Tyler after reading The Backup Boyfriend. His icy persona left much to be desired. And I was also sceptical about what excuse Memphis might give for leaving ten years ago that would allow for forgiveness...enough to have a believable HEA together. This book though blew through my reserves. Hearing Ty and Memphis's background stories and personal struggles, and seeing their vulnerability and honesty left me rooting for their HEA.It was great seeing Dylan, Alec and Noah again too! And as we find out in this book...Alec and Dylan have some big changes ahead...it will be sweet if we get a glimpse of that in the next book. Now its s time for Noah to get a happy ending too. :) hmmm...Ky, perhaps?!This is a wonderful love story.Highly recommend.

These guys deserve each other
I really liked this book, although not quite as much as the first in the series. More about this later. First the pros:The writing was wonderful, catchy and smooth (aside from those annoyingly overused expletives--"Judas Priest" and "Jesus Haploid Christ"--ehm, wait, what?)Tyler, whom I didn't care for all that much during the first book, really grew on my during this one. Memphis, of course, was an adorable, manipulative, mischievous bastard like he was meant to be.Alec and Dylan from book one made a few cameos, and I loved meeting them again; I especially loved to see insecure Dylan giving and receiving advice from Tyler, of all people. As Tyler and Memphis's relationship grew closer, so did their group of friends. Meeting Julissa was another pro; she's a great female character, so well developed even in her rather minor role that I almost wished she'd get her own book at some point. However, I somewhat missed Noah. Even though much of the book was set at his place, Noah's presence wasn't as strongly felt as it was during the first book. Since Noah is kind of like the glue that keeps them all together (and my secret favorite of them all, admittedly) I was glad to see a new scrap of development during the epilogue, hinting at Noah finding happiness of his own in the not-so-far future. It's always hard to come up with a reason for a decade-long separation of "star-crossed" lovers. Although the reasons for Memphis's taking off in the first place took some suspension of disbelief, they were thoroughly explored later and explained to a point where I almost--almost could relate... which was the biggest issue I had with the book: the almost, even more so since I couldn't quite put my finger on what actually bothered me about Memphis and Tyler's breakup-and-reunion-trope. In the end, I guess it might've been a case of it's not the book, it's me, so... as taste is subjective, I think other readers need to find out for themselves.Overall, this was an enjoyable and commendable read, although I'm looking forward to Noah's story even more now.

Loved it - can't wait for the next one!
Having read the first book and not found the character of Tyler overly sympathetic, I was curious what direction we would be led in with this story. I wasn't disappointed - I loved learning more about Tyler, and also seeing bits of Dylan & Alec and how their lives have changed. Bits made me laugh, and some bits made me cry.. All I can say really is roll on book 3 so Noah can get his HEA.
