Senior Engineer Review - The best irrigation pump available, no joke.
OK, this pump is amazing, period. First off, I'm an engineer and I do not rate products 5 stars with a light heart. The value for this pump is top notch. Not only do you get a powerful above ground jet pump, but you actually get the removable jet package and all accessories included (this is very rare for most above ground jet pumps). Typically the jet kit adds another $200-$300.This pump is well integrated, not only does it have the included pressure switch, but it also includes a built in control valve for pressure / flow balance (another external adder for most pump manufacturers.Additionally it includes a standard 1/2" NPT port in the top for filling (what's nice for this is you can T into it and add a valve with a hose spigot and/or a pressure gauge right on the pump (saves alot of plumbing). Rather than putting the pipe plug (yes also included) you can use a standard 1/2" nipple and 1/2" valve with a 3/4" Garden Hose Thread adapter and just shut off the valve rather than removing the pipe plug for priming.Once everything is properly plumbed, the priming, and starting procedure is very easy. Fill with water (either by pouring or with a hose) until the pump is pumping water. Dial the control valve all the way clockwise (closed), back it off 1 - 2 1/2 turns (maximum flow on the open outlet) and you're done. This sprinkler pumps some serious water. We live in the Carolinas where your water needs to be watered at least 2X a day or it will simply turn brown and die to sand. I used to use a 2HP sprinkler pump with a 2" inlet and this pump at 1HP with a 1" inlet/outlet pumps more water (no it was not a well issue). In addition I would get so frustrated because the sprinkler pump would continuously lose prime and the pressure output was not nearly as high as this.I did some experimentation on different running modes (you could run this with or without a air bladder pressure tank, although I recommend with). More importantly this can be run as a stand alone well pump mainly by the pressure switch, or you can run with an external contactor with an irrigation controller that has a "PUMP" output, this pump will rarely lose prime unless there's a severe issue, therefore it doesn't matter if it starts up with 0 pressure at the output.Wayne has a good reputation, but the power of their equivalent pumps don't seem to be there. Goulds pumps are very over priced.Save yourselves some time, money and headaches and buy this pump!

great pump if you get the right one
After my old pump started leaking water onto the motor and I couldn't find repair parts, I looked for a replacement that had service parts available. This pump had parts listed on several websites, and I was expecting higher quality materials and construction since it is made in North America. The current rating on this 1 horsepower pump is higher than the current rating on my old 1 HP pump, which has the same current rating as Red Lion's 3/4 HP.I bought a returned pump through Amazon's warehouse deals since I have had good experiences in the past, but not this time. I received the correct 1 HP box, but the pump motor was 3/4 horsepower. I ordered another one, and this time parts were missing, likely because the first person that had it left them out of the box when returning the pump.I finally got everything connected, but the pump stuttered when starting and stopping. My other pump stuttered a little, but this one stuttered a lot! The small stutter was probably made worse with the new, higher flow pump. I checked everything over and over and tried different pressures on my tank, but couldn't get rid of the problem. I suspected that pressure was building between the pump and the filters, turning off the pump, which would turn on again, turn off when the pressure built up, etc. Yes, the filters were new. Red Lion answers the phone and tried their best, but I continued to have a stuttering problem. Their suggestion to turn up the pressure setting on the pump did help. Perhaps it's just my setup, though I don't think it's much different than anyone else's. My pump goes to two sediment filters in parallel, which then feed the pressure tank. I solved my problem by relocating the pressure switch from the pump to the tank. With this arrangement I can have the pump setting where I want it with zero stuttering. It makes sense to me to detect pressure at the tank, not the pump (which has large pressure jumps as it starts and stops), but I didn't see this suggestion anywhere as I searched for troubleshooting information.Anyway, it has been a few months and the pump works great.

Seriously disappointed... wasted time and money
Spent a lot of time troubleshooting this pump. I replaced all of my suction line thinking something was wrong. The pipe was staying full and so was the pump all of the way up to the fill port. I followed the instructions for priming the pump and purging the air. Tried the process several times and checked for leaks as described in the instruction. All I could ever get was a small trickle for 30 to 45 seconds at most. Ended up calling a company that specialized in wells to try to get it working as I was pretty desperate at this point as the well is our only water source. The well pro couldn't get it to prime either. He said he had never seen a pump stay full of water but then not prime. He pulled the pump and checked to make sure the foot valve was not stuck shut. All good there. He even checked the injector to make sure I had used the correct nozzles... All good there.. Hooked up his jet pump with all of my plumbing and even left the Red Lion injector installed temporarily just to check everything in tact as possible. His pump pulled no problem first try priming. Ended up letting the well company complete the installation with their injector so I could return this pump as we were already several days without water that I wasted troubleshooting. Also wasted my money having it next day shipped only to not work.My well is only 45 feet to water so this pump should've had no problem pumping from that depth. The injector was correctly mounted about 10ft below the water surface and 5ft above the bottom.

Great pump.
Hooked it up and works better then described. Pumps really fast to my surprise.

Convertible jet pump
Works exactly as intended, replaced a home hardware branded red lion pump that was 13 years old, it was started to breakdown on the inside but it is possible its due to galvanized inlet and outlet fittings that were used originally they were heavily breaking down after reacting with the minerals in the ground over time

Not impressed with the product, but Amazon stood behind it and resolved the issue.
I ordered this pump online on August 22, 2017. It arrived within a few days and was installed 2 or 3 days after that. Almost a year to the day, Aug 24, 2018, the pump started making a very loud noise which increased in intensity over the next couple of days. It seems that the bearings we going bad, which is unbelievable after only one year. Not impressive at all. I contacted Amazon, who informed me that the pump had a 2-year manufacturers warranty, but that I had to contact the manufacturer myself to arrange for a resolution to the problem. I've contacted the manufacturer and we'll see what happens next. They have an opportunity to make me increase my rating, depending on how they deal with this problem.Update 1: So far the Supplier has been quite responsive, but they have only offered to replace the pump, not give me a refund. Replacing the pump is of no use to me, since I have already replaced the pump. I need a pump to supply water to my home, so I couldn't afford to wait for this issue to be resolved before I replaced the pump.Update 2: OK, so the supplier has continued to be unhelpful. They insist that all they can do is replace the pump, and as I explained above, this is not what I need. In fact, they have shipped me a new pump, without letting me know it was coming. I suppose from their perspective this solves the issue, but from mine, it just leaves me with another thing to figure out how to ship back. Amazon, however, has come through! After a number of attempts to deal with the Amazon front-line chat-based CS agents, who were distinctly unhelpful as well, I finally managed to get through to someone at Amazon who understood the issue, and Amazon has provided a full refund and a shipping label to return the pump. I had to do some digging on the web in order to find a telephone number, but once I got through to them, they were excellent. So the final word is that Amazon was excellent once you find the right person, Red Lion (Franklin Electric) no so much. I will never deal with Franklin Electric again if I can help it.
