Pineapple Slicer Works!
Was so tired of trying to slice the seed "warts" off of pineapples so I could get to and cut up the fruit!! This product slices the pineapple cleanly and very quickly. There is a little more waste, but considering how quickly it works, I think it's more than worth it. Easy to use, quick and simple. The pineapple shell that is left is great for serving fruit salad out of. I have also used it to hold cut up apples and oranges - I hang it outside in an empty mesh onion bag - for my wild birds that come looking for treats every day. They love it!!!Why did I struggle for so long? Because my mother taught me to cut a pineapple that way!!! Well, after 50 years, I decided it was time for some change - and what a difference! OXO came to my rescue with an easy-to-use and very affordable product. Great service, free shipping, a product that works - what more could you ask for? Thanks, OXO and Amazon!

Simple, easy to use, does one thing well
I mean I usually don't buy unitaskers, but this is an exception. Our local grocery started selling pineapples for 99c and they were delicious and too good to pass up. But we all know pineapples can be messy. This little thing takes care of the coring and slicing for you and a whole pineapple is ready to eat in literally a minute or two. Not to mention: if you're going to hollow out a pineapple to use as a drinking vessel and fill it with a cocktail, this happens to make your pineapple perfect for that as well. Dishwasher safe and no it isn't stainless steel but it works and does what it needs to. OXO always comes through.

It works and no one gave e me the product in exchange for a review. I do not agree or pay attention to the vine reviews.
Only recently have we started eating pineapple. I like the sweet taste and the natural goodness. But using a big knife to clean and prepare was not for me. I looked at all that were offered on Amazon. Very few came from a company I had heard of previously. We have many OXO products. This seemed like a good choice based on that. I was right, it is easy to use, easy to clean, and works as expected. Would have given 5 stars if I had used it more before doing the review. Will update...

The better mousetrap has been built!
I had no idea that this kind of slicer existed until I was watching one of those home shopping channels. I was hooked on the idea as soon as I saw it being demonstrated, so I knew that if I checked Amazon I would find one for less money, and here it is! Check out the short video that's here on this page and you'll see exactly how easy it is to use this tool. The packaging says that the slicer is dishwasher safe, but I would be anxious about putting the handle in there. The shaft/blade assembly is another story, but since I'll be washing the handle by hand, I might as well wash the shaft by hand too.Oxo makes a more expensive version of this slicer made of stainless steel, but this plastic one looks like it will do its job for quite a while. Highly recommended.

A great product at a great price
I bought this for my wife. We eat quite a lot of fresh pineapple in this house and a better way of cutting one up was really needed. I had some serious questions about how good this could be since it was not all steel. I need not have been concerned because the slicer works great. While I did buy it for my wife, she gives the chore of coring pineapples to me because this really does take some hand and arm strength to use, but it is by no means difficult. The ratcheting system is terrific and enables the tool to make amazingly clean cuts through the pineapple, the result being a neatly cut pile of pineapple circles. This is a great product at a great price!

This product is horrible.
I had a stainless steel one from William Sanoma that lasted 20 years and finally the button that attaches the handle to the corer broke. I thought ok I will get a OXO pineapple corer because I love all there products. This thing is a piece of junk! It pulverized and crushes my pineapple. No rings... I watched the video 3 times and ruined 3 pineapples because I thought I was doing something wrong. Nope same problem every time. I am good with kitchen gadgets and this thing is simply frustrating and not easy to use! Of course I can’t return it now because I missed the return window. I called OXO and they can’t refund me because I bought it on Amazon. I know it was only$9.99 but it’s the principle at this point. OXO is sending me another but I don’t have high hopes. I don’t understand how there were so many good reviews! Don’t buy it it’s a piece of junk. Going back to stainless steel.

Size Matters!
I do a lot of pineapple slicing...a tool like this is great. But you have to know generally what size pineapple your grocer (or other source) tends to sell. There are multiple grades of pineapples with some being smaller, more slender pineapples and others being larger, more robust pineapples. If your source is the smaller, slender type that measures less than 5" at its widest point you will probably find that this OXO brand of slicer meets your needs just fine. However, if like me, you have a source that imports the larger, more robust pineapples (in my case, Costco) which more typically are wider and easily measure 5-6" you will find the base of this slicer (measuring approx 3-1/2") is not wide enough and you will end up having to do a lot more slicing yourself to remove a lot of good pineapple meat surrounding the walls of the pineapple. My original slicer was of the wider variety (with a base of at least 4" or better). Unfortunately I don't recall its brand (I bought it ages ago) and threw it away recently (after several years of use) when it finally broke...and before I realized (when slicing a pineapple with my new OXO yesterday) how important this size distinction is. I thought OXO would be a simple replacement at a good price (the picture didn't look that much different from my original slicer), but for my purposes (WIDE pineapples) it is, unfortunately, not ideal. I bought the original at my local grocer, so I'll probably keep an eye out for another brand that measures up! Hope this helps!
