Sawyer Products Premium MAXI DEET, 100% DEET Insect Repellent

Ordered these for a trip to Tahiti and was so glad I did. The mosquitos were soooo bad. My 2 traveling pals went the herbal/natural route, but I had read up on how DEET is the only blocker that makes you essentially invisible to mosquitos, while I got to stand next to people who smelled of rosemary, lavender, sage and citronella while mosquitos feasted on their flesh. These were the perfect size for my luggage.

I've used Sawyer's products for decades. I previously outfitted expeditions for National Geographic, and anywhere scientists, photographers and film crews ventured that were tick, fly, mosquito, insect infested I sent Sawyer products. Maxi DEET is a proven formula.I now use Maxi Deet on my farm in conjunction with Sawyers Permethrin clothing spray. If I don't wear sprayed clothing or Maxi Deet, I get ticks on me. Sawyer makes the best products for tick repellent on the market.Additional notes: avoid the 4 oz aerosol can, something is wrong with the spray head and shoots out like a laser beam. You cannot spray uniformly and as a result waste more product then needed. The pump spray is not a great option either, as the pump is cheap and breaks before half the bottle is used. I am currently searching for alternative spray bottles of better quality since Maxi Deet is the best tick/insect repellant available.I used to use Off Sport which stays on during sweaty activities, but Off changed the product. It now has some chemical that causes immediate rash on my neck and others I gave the product to. The same chemical is in some of Sawyer's insect repellants that advertise alternatives to deet.

I was traveling by airline to a known bug-y destination. I wanted to be sure to have a supply of good strong bug repellent. I picked this brand mostly based on the fact that the non-aerosol bottles in less than 3 oz size would get through airport TSA screening.When I got to my destination and first used this product I was pleasantly surprised to see that it went on nearly dry, not oily like most. Sure, if you put enough of it on it can get oily, but just a quick spritz is all it took to keep the bugs away, and at that concentration you hardly notice it at all. It is also very low scent. I won't go so far as to say it is scent-less, but you really have to stick your nose in it to smell it.Others around me were using the most popular brand of spray repellent from those green aerosol cans and they were definitely not getting the bug-protection I was. One new acquaintance was complaining that she really disliked the odor associated with that brand and was struggling to find an alternative. I let her try this one and she was an instant convert and so am I.

I discovered this product last year. I volunteer for a therapeutic camp for kids in the Hill Country of Texas. Can we talk chiggers? Until I found this product I would be covered with chigger bites. They are the worst. They itch like crazy and take forever to go away. Other products like off just don’t do the trick. I can say that this past Camp season I didn’t have one chigger bite! It’s a record! I now use it any time I’m in the country. It not only keeps the chiggers away but the every day mosquito and ants as well. If you are going Camp, hunting or just sitting on the porch in the evening, this is what you want

I was very excited about this product since I hoped to control the gnats that torment me on my daily three mile walk in a wooded neighborhood. Alas, it was not helpful at all. The product does not spray - it comes out in a strong thin stream so spraying my baseball cap was out of the question. I did my best but the gnats LOVED IT and continued to swarm. Very disappointed.

I use this when I am going to be in the weeds or working in the woods. Lasts a long time. Works well, but stinks. Tastes awful if you get any mist in your mouth. APPLY IT OUTSIDE. Be very careful not to get any on plastic items like eyeglasses and sunlasses. It WILL damage many plastics. Dinging a star overall because the pump sprayer is leaky and hard to use to cover everywhere. This product would be much improved if the DEET was mixed with something light that evaporates quickly and applied with a dispenser that can be held upside down like just about every repellent on the market. If I am not going to be in super buggy territory I use regular 40% DEET spray, Repel brand I believe.

mosquitos love me and we were heading to the Pantanal in Brasil - home to millions of hungry flying things. I coated myself with a cocktail including this and had absolutely no problems- thrilled

If you need total protection this is probably as close as you can get.The smell isn't too bad. It's a bit greasy but I find that this helps me know that the spray is applied properly and I haven't missed any spots.I also recommend the Sawyer product designed specifically for clothing application.
