This isn't regular tahini that happens to be black... but we love it.
We've ordered it twice so far, and love it. As with normal tahini, you'll find the need to stir it quite a bit , to mix the stuff from the bottom into the more oily stuff up top. I imagine that the vibration and bouncing of delivery trucks helps it separate. But it's always been fresh (not too separated, compared with some tahini which is almost impossible to stir back into shape, if it's been sitting on a shelf too long), and it will stay mixed and ready to use for weeks, especially if kept in the fridge. The flavor is definitely stronger and more earthy than regular tahini (I think part of it is that "regular tahini is hulled sesame seeds, and this contains the hulls). Also, it does turn everything dark/black, which seems a plus to me in that generally the colors in foods are the nutrients we are looking for. I've also read that for some people, black sesame, if consumed daily, can help the body turn grey hair back to its normal color. That would be interesting if it actually works. Meanwhile, it's a great product to replace normal tahini, or nut butters in recipes, add to smoothies, use for a dip- for veggies, like carrots and celery, or just scoop out of the jar to eat (which we do sometimes...). Remember that it's got a lot of oil content, so calories are high, if you're concerned about that kind of thing.I love to mix it with carob powder, a little stevia or honey, and some water to make a thick, almost chocolaty snack. If you eat chocolate, you could use coco powder instead. It's got a lot of calories, but it tastes great! One note on the price, because I see reviews under the 8 pound bucket saying how much more inexpensive it is to buy that way... it's actually not. This 3.5 pound size is the better value per pound. Get out your calculator. Prices may change over time, but as I write this, the 8 pound bucket is about 5.62 per pound, while this 3.5 pound size is only 5.08. Maybe that's why they list the price per pound on the bigger buckets and price per ounce on this size. Or maybe smaller sizes of product are just normally listed by the ounce. Either way, the only better deal than this is on the huge 35 pound bucket, which comes in at 4.12 a pound - with shipping added, it's 4.95. Not much savings there either.

NOT BURNT - Black Sesame Seeds Are a Distinct Variety.
If you like black sesame seeds, black sesame ice cream, or mochi with black sesame filling, you will like this tahini. It is not "burnt", but black sesame seeds do have a different and stronger flavor than white. I think it tastes best with a little something sweet added. The texture is like regular tahini, which needs to be stirred to incorporate the oil into the solids. Even after stirring, however, it is still runny, just like any nut butter without added oils or sugar. (Try storing the jar upside down before opening. The solids will then be at the top of the jar, making it easier to mix.) Runny tahini thickens up beautifully when any kind of liquid is added to it. I like to add some water, salt, and sweetener, then stir into a thick, creamy paste - delicious! The only drawback is that this tahini is more expensive than the white tahini I buy at my Asian market, and the black sesame flavor isn't always worth the extra bucks to me. Nevertheless, I will probably still continue to purchase this on occasion, especially if I want to create a striking black dessert. Imagine a pumpkin roll with a black tahini swirl - WOW and YUM!

A little extra work required
The price did increase from 17 to 24, but still an alright company. My last two batches were pretty soupy, but the first one had perfect consistency.I'd recommend buying a bag of seeds & roasting them, pureeing it, then dumping the powder in the jar to even out the consistency.

High Quality Product. It's Really Black!
This is the first time I've bought black tahini. The consistency is perfect, maybe a little thicker than regular tahini. The flavor is not as nutty. My 3.5 lb jar is is creamy and smooth, definitely not bitter as some have stated. I've found that storing jars of tahini upside down eliminates clumping at the bottom and makes them much easier to stir. I will continue to buy regular tahini, but this is definitely a novelty and taste and texture are perfectly good.

Makes Outstanding hummus
The flavor is excellent, has a nuttier flavor than typical tahini I've had before. The hummus I made is very good, made it using cooked Palouse dried chickpeas. The black appearance completely dominates the chickpeas, the hummus is very black. This would make a uniquely flavored tahini dressing or marinade. The texture was very smooth in the jar so didn't need a major amount of stirring up separated oil and paste. The black color makes a mess in the kitchen but it cleans us easily with water and sponge. Make sure to wipe your face after enjoying.

Sometimes fresh tasting, sometimes not.
This last time I received it was ever so slightly at the brink of tasting rancid. They will happily refund the product but I just decided to eat it. Other times it has been quite delicious.

Loveb
I absolutely love this black tahini.FYI you need to mix well from the bottom at first!. I put this on toast, I add drizzle it on top of my salad, in the dressing, blend with milk, drizzle on top of vanilla ice cream, so many options!Black sesame seeds are known to lower cholesterol, reduces grey hair and many more benefits! The container I got it is huge! But it doesn’t expire until the end of 2025.It’s recommended to take this up to 50g. A Table spoon is 15g so I take about 2 tables spoon(30g) a day.

Burnt Sesame
I have been eating sesame for over 50 years but never tried the black. I read some (dubious) reviews that claimed a nuttier more sesame taste. NOPE! This stuff tastes exactly how it looks. Burnt sesame seeds. Not nuttier at all, in fact the burnt bitter taste is the dominant element. It is reminiscent of burnt coffee. If you like burnt coffee, or coal tar, this black sesame is for you. If you like true nutty, mellow, satisfying sesame flavor, don't buy this black stuff. Some of the reviews that recommend this stuff seem questionable to me, and may be part of a marketing strategy.
