Awesome video playback-Even When Streaming Over Home Network
I have been looking for a product that was going to play all my disks, including Blu Ray but also be able to play regular DVD's, DVD RW+/-R and many of the other formats that a lot of the other player don't touch. I also wanted something that was going to be able to stream from my PC onto my network without too much hassle. I looked into getting a PS3, but didn't need it for gaming and the price tag was a bit much at $299Then I found SAMSUNG. I began by looking at their line of Blu Ray players and found the BD-D6500 & BD-D6700. I noticed some of the other ones said "Wi-fi ready" so I steared away from those since I knew they would require something else to do what I needed. I decided on the BD-6500.What an amazing piece of equiptment! Not only does it play Blu Ray, it plays all my other DVD's, Mpgs' mkv's AVI's, DIVX, ect. It also has a USB port on it so you can attach an external thumb drive or whatever you want (Terabyte external) and play movies, music, photos from there. Another cool feature is it's ability to stream from your PC. Now if you have an older OS (like XP or Vista) you will need to download the "Allshare" program for free at Samsung website. The installation and setup is pretty self-explanatory, although a complete novice may need to call customer support. One word of advice though. Make sure you put all your movies/large files into their own directories, or it will take forever for the Allshare software to add them to the library. Once loaded, the software streams flawlessly. I have expierenced NO lag or hiccups at all, and I'm not even using a new router. My router is the Netgear WPN824 802.11 b&g.I would reccomend the BD-D6500 to anyone who needs a great Blu-Ray player and who also wants internet capability, streaming options and to unclutter their living room of all those pesky DVDs cases. It's low profile and is right for the $156 NEW price tag on AMAZON.I forgot to mention that I did try the SMARTHUB feature, which is the internet connection. It works great. There are all types of games and entertainment options available. Some are free and some are premiuim. You can setup an account and add cash to your wallet to purchase the premuim services. Very slick and functional although I have not purchased anything as of yet. I did try Texas Holdem Poker though and lost...

Great Picture and Nice Add-On's ......
I recently bought a new receiver (Yamaha RX_v475), Speakers (Polk Monitor70's), Sub (Polk PSW-110) and this blu-ray. This was really an afterthought. It turned out to be the best item of my all my purchases. First, it's wi-fi - so hook up was < 5 minutes and it worked easily. Secondly, the add-on's from the Samsung Smart-tv were great (Pandora, hulu, you tube) are awesome. I can listen to CD (or better) quality music through my system with incredible sound. Third (& last) I was happy to find out it plays CD's & DVD's also (maybe I should have known this, but I was incorrect that they couldn not be backwards compatible). It's now replaced DVD Turntable, XM Receiver. For $110 -- best money I;'ve spent. We just played our first Blu-Ray: it reminded me when I first saw my first DVD (how great the pic was compared to VCR tape) -- WOW ! DVD 's are also am improvement.BTW -- I've seen this unit at Best Buy for much more !

I never want to reset anything again.
ProsDecent boot time with blu-rays, Netflix button on remoteConsCould not get wireless adapter to workSnail speed interfaceJumpy, unusable picture when streamingI purchased this blu-ray player for my parents mainly so they could stream Netflix over their wireless network. The only pros that comes to mind is it has a much quicker load time than their last blu-ray player and the dedicated Netflix button on the remote is a nice feature. The problems started when I tried connecting to the wifi network, the unit at first did not find the network even though the router was only 30 feet away but did manage to find the neighbor's network. After restarting the unit a few times it did find my network but would not connect, even after I took off all security measures on the router. I tried restarting the blu-ray unit and router multiple times and on the few restarts where the unit did find my wifi network it still would not connect. I decided to move the router into the room with the blu-ray player as there was a phone jack in there, maybe after a firmware update would be able to use wireless. It was able to connect to the internet via ethernet, but found no updates. I installed Netflix but did so using my account instead of my parent's, no big deal just reset the unit right? Wrong! After more resets and re-installs of Netflix the unit was still linked to my account. Finally I decided to call customer service and was instructed to reset the unit exactly as I had done before, still not fixing the problem. Half an hour and a few technicians later I was instructed to reset my Netflix account on my pc which finally worked. While I had them on the line I decided ask for help connecting to the wireless network, another half hour of resetting my router and blu-ray player and changing wifi settings that I had already tried. The lady on the phone finally was out of ideas so she said she was going to connect me to a more qualified agent, but unfortunately none were available so I was instructed to call back. I decided to just hook the player up permanently via ethernet and try streaming. By this point I had messed around with most parts of the menu and can say that it is one of the absolute slowest interfaces I have ever used. As long as I could get decent streaming I'd be ok. I tried playing a random movie and the quality was terrible along with an unwatchable jumpiness added. Maybe another reset would help? I should have known by now that resetting this unit does absolutely nothing except take up time. I tried another movie, still blurry and still very jumpy. At this point I gave up and said they are going to have to live with the jumpy picture when watching Netflix, at least it's good at playing blu-rays. In the end not happy at all with this.
