Once you get the coating off the rod it throws sparks better than most of the ferro rods out there.

I've used this most of the summer and it works pretty well.I wish the sparking rod was a little longer but it is still ok.The strings keeping the two halves together definitely should be longer. That is my only real complaint with this product. I feel a little hamstrung when striking. But thus far I've started every fire I've started, about 15 in total this year.

This strike force fire starter w/ tinder is a solid buy. I have multiple Ust fire starters and I like how the striker & ferro rod are stored together with a strong lanyard. The first picture shows the Flint bar at about 1.75 inches. The size offers a good grip on both the striker & Flint. The 2 pieces of tinder inside the handle are a nice bonus. The second picture offers a size comparison with the compact thinner ferro rod fire starter. For the hardcore campers, they may prefer a longer ferro rod, but as a novice, it works for me. Nice product for Ust.

I haven't done more than play around with it so far, but looks like it will work like it's supposed to if I actually need it.

Only used it once so far but I’m very impressed with the amount of sparks it creates.
