Lebkuchen Schmidt Festive Chest, 6.23-Pound Container

Beautiful workmanship in the old time chest. Excellent gingerbread.

Wonderful, just like as if I were back in Germany! I am so pleased I can continue family traditions to my children, even here in the US. The Lebkuchen and all the goods were fresh inside the box.

This year the Lebkuchen Schmidt Festive Chest, 6,23-pound Container arrived on time, but the content was disappointing. One of the packages was open open of arrival, others seemed dryer as usual. The list included was from 1912. Could it be that the chest was repackaged at some time and not the original as packaged by Schmidt in Germany. I had planned to give German Lebkuchen as gifts to my American friends, but did not feel comfortable doing that. I would ask for reimbursement, but do not think you would honor my request after several weeks now. In any case, I will this year for Christmas order my Festive Christmas Chest directly from Otto Schmidt in Germany, which I have done in previous years. OMG, I bought one of these on sale after Christmas here on Amazon. It is HUGE!!! The cookies never end and what a variety! My Grandson will use the tin to store toys after the cookies are all gone. I can see how getting one every year would make a fantastic Holiday tradition.

I READ THE GLOWING REVIEWS, BUT I DID NOT CHECK THE DATES.THESE COOKIES ARE YEARS OLD AND TASTE THAT WAY . PERHAPS THEY WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU SOAKED THEM IN MILK;HOWEVER, I DOUBT THAT CAN REVIVE THEM. LIKE EATING CARDBOARD WITH A HINT OF STALE SPICE. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. THE TIN IS FOR HOLIDAY 2010, THAT MEANS THEY CAN BE UP TO THREE YEARS OLD.

Disappointing. The 4th year and this time it was bad. Stale and discolored. Obviously exposed to heat.

Every year for Christmas our Grandparents from Germany sent a tin from Germany. The arrival signaled the holiday season had officially begun. This holiday season for sentimental reason I purchased this tin and have placed it as shrine on the sideboard in my DR Christmas display. Can't wait for my family to gather this Sunday! There were a few favorites that are no longerin the tin, and since the cost was only slightly higher I can see that adjustments were made in product to avoid drastic increase in price. I was soo happy to find a perpetual calendar that will be a treasured keepsake that will take a prominent place on my wall. I am giddy to be adding the keepsake chest to the ones that were given from my childhood. This year cements the restart of a traditionas I want to be able to hand these chests down to my children - the one thing prominent in all my siblings homes are our Schmidt Festive Chests. Do Not let the price turn you away the quality and quantity of the goodies enjoyed this holiday are only paled by the memory of the chest. I display my prominently all year long, and guess what? I have a tree full of very delicate ornaments which I never worry about being broken because-yes, you guessed it-I pack ornaments in one, my porcelain Nativity in another, and have started an antique santa collection which is lookinfor a yearround home-so problem solved.BUY THIS YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!!!
