Very Nice SG
This Guitar smokes, I love it great pickups and with no paint to muffle the sound you get a nice woody tone. That's why most guitars with the finish rubbed off sound better.(vintage because of the finish being virtually gone i.e. Stevie Ray's no.1) It has faded in a few areas that get contact, to be expected.I would guess in a year it will look fairly used, the setup was fantastic right out of the box, to be expected. for less than half a grand you can't beat it.(well actually you can, it is pretty solid and can take a little abuse) I've installed a roller bridge for less than 20 bucks. well worth it. The SG has become my go to guitar in the stable as of last Month when this showed up.

Better ones for the money
Switch is frail. Frets are crazy sharp.Tuners are weak and fallout of tune faster than others (grover). Neck is as thick as a log .However the action & level is awesome. Even if neck is gianormous still plays well. Love the look. For the same moneyan Epi or Ibanez is a much better build and value, if done in Indonesia

Hard to believe this is a real Gibson
I was excited to finally buy a real Gibson USA and move up from the Epiphone arena. Well...I probably should have saved up some more money. Purchased this NEW. This guitar is mostly a piece of garbage. The frets are very sharp. I highly doubt the body is actually Mahogany, it looks and feels (weight wise) like cheap Asian basswood. The routing in the cavities is very poorly done. The finish is a lot crappier than the pictures lead one to believe. I have an Epi in the vintage rubbed finish and they actually put a finish on the guitar. This finish is almost non existent, I expected to see some grain through the finish, that's the point, but it's like they took about an ounce of paint and gently wiped it on. I'd compare it to if you had a guitar that was white and tried to sand it back down to bare wood, but decided at the end you were close enough. The body isn't smooth at all, they didn't even use any grain sealer, you can feel the grain of the wood like it's a bare piece. Now the worst part is the internal electronics. Gibson used a cheap piece of crap PCB with the potentiometers all soldered to it. That wouldn't be a huge deal if it actually worked. Out of the box both volume pots were messed up. One doesn't function at all, the other only works in the 5 position. The pickups have quick connects so I switched the connections just to verify it was the potentiometer (volume knob) and not the pickup itself that didn't function. It was the volume knob. So I have two broken volume knobs out of the box which if I were keeping the guitar would require me to replace all of the internals (4 potentiometers). The capacitors look to be some super cheap ceramic garbage that is the same cheapness in an Epiphone. The guitar has a really loud buzz (poor grounding) unless touching the metal. I have multiple guitars, none of these issues are my guitar cable or amp. I tried other guitars immediately after just to make sure my cable or amp didn't crap out on me. Nothing about this guitar has the "Gibson quality" that I've heard so much about. I know it's the bottom of the barrel Gibson, but I expected something better than $150 Epiphone quality. You're only paying for the Gibson name on a cheap trash guitar. You're better off sticking a Gibson sticker on an Epiphone if the logo is what you want because you'll save a few hundred bucks. The truss rod cover is a crappy one ply thing with SGJ printed on it, The SGJ was already halfway worn off right out of the box. Worst $500 I've ever spent. (see update in comments)

Awesome!
This is the first Gibson that I have dreamed of.Even if it has simple design than standards, it exactly shows the originality of Gibson.Nice quality! Cool sound!I am really happy to get this at amazingly reasonable price at $423(plus tax)Unlike the other guys saying, it has nice condition, I mean neck, body, fret and etc.Of course, it doesn't have perfect quality with everything, however you know, Gibson is not the company making their guitars with many machines.Anyway, if you are not crazy about the beautiful guitar design, I'm sure that SGJ is the best guitar in similar price range.

Better than my Les Paul!
I am left-handed, which makes buying a decent guitar a challenge. I bought this SGJ. Man what a pleasant surprise. I have a 1987 Les Paul Standard. This SGJ SMOKES that LP. It's light, reactive, very lively guitar. Extreme access to all frets. I love this guitar. The finish is matte, I just love it. No frills here, very basic. A work horse. I have been playing semi-professionally for over 45 years. I own a LOT of guitars, both American and foreign. If you would like American craftsmanship, do not hesitate. This is one of the best deals available.

Plays and sounds great.. what a great deal
Plays and sounds great .. what a great deal ... If other dealers would give the price break to us leftys Like Sam Ash did here .. I would be buying others for sure .. so freakin cool to say ( Its a Great deal) but if you are right handed and want to buy it , you have to pay an extra 100 bucks for the same guitar .. How does that make you feel ?? .... ahhhh !! that's to bad !! .. so sorry you were born right handed !! ..

I good deal for $400
I was playing acoustic guitar when I switched to electric. I had an awful honk from my fender and wanted a new guitar. I started reading reviews and found what I thought was a good price on a Gibson SGJ. I read reviews with a bit of skepticism, I always wonder if company’s plant reviews to boost sales. I purchased this guitar sight unseen due to the reviews anyway.I received the Gibson SGJ and plugged it into my amp (Roland cube 80xl, like this amp, 12’’ speaker and has a loop function.) and as the song goes, I began to play. I’m no expert, but this guitar was set up fine right out of the box. Very fast action, takes a light touch to play. It’s not pretty but either am I.Also, come to find out I was putting too much pressure on my strings when I played causing them to bend, I didn’t need a new guitar, the fender was Fine, still really glad I bought the SGJ anyway.
