Electronic Humane Rodent Zapper.

Tell tail signs - a better mousetrap
Our kitchen was plagued by a rodent who made nightly forays into anything left out, including fruit, sourdough starter, malt powder, and crackers. When we hid all of the the animals chewed our rubber floor mat (photo). I tried poison bait and glue traps to no avail. Desperate, and despite the negative reviews, i purchased the rodent zapper. As a research scientist who works experimentally with rodents, I am shocked that some of the poisons are allowed and glue traps since they can cause a slow, painful death. As a scientist, there are strict rules about euthanasia only using drugs that kill the animals and painlessly. I figured that the zapper was the best option, but was concerned about the negative reviews. The item is actually well made out of sturdy plastic and is easy to assemble. Just plug in the adapter, turn on the switch, and you are ready to fo. It is important to place it near a baseboard in areas where there are tell-tale signs of infestation such as droppings or gnawing,I baited it with peanut butter and then remembering that the rat seemed to have a taste for sweet grains, sprinkled in some malt powder and left it for a few hours, not expecting much. When I came back, I heard a soft alarm sound and the light was flashing green. I also saw a bit of tail extending out of the opening. SUCCESS! I simple unplugged the unit and dumped the carcass into the trash bin. I then opened it, sprinkled in a bit more malt powder and turned it on. SA few days later, I awoke to the soft beep and a "tell tail sign" emerging from the trap (photo). In digging a bit deeper, rodents seem to have an affinity for barley malt, if you ask a brewmaster, distiller, or baker, since rodent infestation seems to be one of the major issues with malt storage. I could not find a master baiter on the Internet who recommended barley malt as a bait, but would strongly urge that you try this if you haven't had luck with peanut butter or similar. Merely sprinkle it along the length of the base (photo) so entice them in. Barley malt is available on Amazon as “Diastatic malt powder” or similar.Altogether, although a bit pricey, it has already proven itself. Do yourself a favor and purchase this along with some malt powder. The rats will die happy and your belongings will thank you.

Give it Time!
I was very hesitant at first and thought this product would be a "pie-in-the-sky" attempt to kill without poison or snap traps. I decided it was worth a chance before breaking down and using less humane methods. I set the trap up in the attic along a rafter using the plug option so as to not have to worry about batteries and if they are charged enough. There is a red indicator light on the plug that tells you the machine is working. Note the switch on the back needs to be on the "I" position to work. There is also an LED light on a cord that I hung down from my attic ceiling access panel so I could tell if anything was happening instead of having to climb up there and check constantly. For the bait I put a small amount of peanut butter and granola in the litte bait area and for the first couple of days nothing happened but this morning I noticed the LED light was on and beeping and sure enough the trap had caught a black rat. No exaggerating this thing was 16 inches head to tip of tail. I couldn't believe the trap caught something so large. It clearly died quickly there was no blood just some little bit of fur on the metal plate. This thing had been living in our house for some time I would find its droppings in the laundry room and tried my best to seal up entrances to no luck. I feel much better with the rat gone as I have small dogs and want them to be safe and have a clean home. I hope everyone has as much success with this product and good luck just be patient the rats need to sniff it out a few nights before taking the bait.

Works great!
Rats are SMART! There’s a reason they’re used in experiments! If they see something out of the ordinary in an area they frequent, they’ll avoid it until they feel it’s safe. So if you don’t catch any immediately, don’t despair. It took over a week for me to catch any, then I caught 2 back to back!! I’m a HUGE animal lover. I really don’t like killing any animal, but I simply can’t have disease carrying rats around my house. Plus, they drive my dogs NUTS, which drives ME nuts! This product kills them instantly, they don’t suffer, unlike glue sticks (in my opinion, glue sticks should be outlawed). Glad I bought this!

No mess, no involvement. Absolutely lethal to critters.
This thing is greatl! As an electrical engineer I've developed a whole new respect for the power contained in 4 D cell batteries. It's been 6 weeks, 4 chipmunks, and more than a dozen mice. I haven't used the AC adapter yet; haven't had to. The original blob of peanut butter is still intact on the bait tray and I haven't changed the batteries yet. Last confirmed kill was yesterday.Everything electrical is self-contained at the back of an enclosed tunnel, so there's no way to accidentally touch anything that could touch back.A kill is indicated by a slow flashing blue LED and a soft beeping.Emptying the trap is as simple as picking it up and dumping it out. Re-setting the trap involves power cycling by turning the power switch off and then back on. My wife doesn't do traps but has no problem with this one.I'll buy another one to set up in my camper.

Rat(s) took bait and lived to tell the tale
I bought this to eliminate the rat(s) that decimated my vegetable garden this past summer. We tried everything we could to enclose the small garden on both top and sides, but the rodent was obviously more motivated than I thought. While I hate killing anything, I realize that rats multiply quickly so was hoping for a humane method to get rid of them. I was happy to find this device. We gave the device 6 tries over 4 days, using dry cat food pellets, peanut butter and lettuce. We tried it with battery power and the AC adapter. Each time, the food disappeared and we saw nearby rat droppings. The device was flashing either red or green every time, but no dead rodent was inside. I’m assuming I received a defective one (as other one-star reviewers likely did), so it’s going back. I likely will order another and will revise this review as appropriate.

Well made
Not caught anything as yet but it is set and waiting for its first guest to visit.Easy to set up and with the advantage of both mains and battery I can place it just where I need to

Our rats are far too clever to get zapped by this!
We have a family of rats living under our garden shed. We tried traditional traps and did catch a couple of them. However, they wised up. Don't underestimate how clever they are! We set this Electronic Humane Zapper trap up on different days with their favourite foods, peanut butter, chocolate, rasher of bacon, popcorn and waiting excitedly for days but had no joy. It seems to me that they are far too smart to run into a small dark box and get trapped. They do however, run over it and around it .........but never into it!

Never caught any mice
This thing is too big and perhaps emits some kind of noise of Electromagnetic emission that warns the mice away from it. I had a few mice in the house and only managed to kill them off with poison and glueboards

Shoddy
Doesn't work for me. Other traps around it do (same bait). Also the power cord which comes with it is so short it's useless. Note too that this cannot be used outside as it is not weatherproof. For me - a waste of money.

Not Impressed
For the price it seems quite good, but the batteries were over £8.00 and they say it will only do 30 blasts. I have had more success with the old wooden traps. It is not weathproof, any moisture in the air causes it to short out.I feel it was a waist of money.
