Sony RDR-GX3 DVD Recorder

An easy to set up DVD recorder - with Sky/PS2/Nintendo/Dolby 5:1 bits and pieces, we had no problem - so you should be on your way to recording in only a short while. The on-screen menu is nicely laid out, easy to navigate and understand. It accepts nearly all DVD media (which is a restriction on other models) and the quality of recording is great. The lowest setting/highest compression which I'd heard was pretty poor picture quality - it's not, it's perfectly watchable!Get yourself a few DVD-RW (rewritable) discs, they'll come in handy for your regular programs, and you can just delete them from the disc as you go along. This is easy to do, as well as moving the program order, changing titles and details, you just go into the menu and it's very straightforward.Nice looking machine, very easy to use and good quality; we've used this for about 6 months now without any hassle whatsoever. Goodbye to the VCR!!The only slight down point for me is it's a bit loud (because of the fan) when the machine is on - but it's no louder than a PS2 or computer, and my other half can't hear it, so it'll probably only be noticeable to those with excellent hearing :)

Since there still aren't that many DVD Recorders on the market, this machine makes a great replacement for your video. The picture quality is excellent and with 6 different recording lengths you'll never run short of time when recording your favourite programme. When recording from the television the programme title is automatically taken from Teletext meaning that your title is easy to find when viewing. Vidoeplus makes setting a recording as easy as it can get. Reads all formats and can write in +RW or -RW, -R making it compatible with most players or computers. This machine is only let down by the slow speed when loading a disk so leave plenty of time before recording. Top DVDR!

I bought this machine about one year ago, still having a VHS recorder working. Now the VHS gone dead and I need to use the DVD for "taping". But I did not find any instructions in english or norwegian as norwegian is my language. Only spanish french and german. Anyone know where to find the user manual???If not, I need to be helped out with two topics

I eventually ended up with one of these machines after my Philips 880(grrr!) broke in 9 months - as they all do it would seem. I should havepaid a bit more and got a Sony in the first place. I've bought their kitfor years and have NEVER had a faulty machine from Sony. Just theopposite. Their kit is like the Duracell bunny, just goes on and on andon... This machine is fantastic. The Philips felt very light and nondurable. When you pull the Sony out of its box you are instantly struckby its solidity, weight and overall engineering excellence. In fact, ifit was a car it would be an old Mercedes 190. Overengineered and built tooutlive its owner! I cannot recommend the GX3 highly enough. If you're inthe market for a DVD recorder then buy it. You will NOT be disappointed. As for those with masochistic tendencies who like pain and hassle then buya Philips machine!

After trying out other dvd players, i was pleasantly suprised by the overall build quality of the Sony machine. Im not normally the sort to wade through pages of instrutions but i did find them easy to follow, although there are a few pages to trawl through.This is very user friendly and within half an hour i was recording happily. The quality of the recordings are very good and i feel justified in my purchase.I was lucky enough to find the Sony machine at the low price of £349.00 including delivery so i was very satisfied especially as some shops are pricing it at up to £600.00.Im very happy with the dvd recorder on the hole but i was annoyed that Sony didnt include any blank discs to kick start your recording career, although if you fill in the registration leaflet then you will get one or two.Is it worth throwing away your video recorder yet? - no!

Mine's given a year of trouble-free recording.Especially good at preserving old VHS and camcorder tapes, its video noise reduction controls have a remarkable resorative effect.HSP mode (90 min) looks the same as HQ (60 min).SP (120min) is noticably blocky, especially in 16/9.Audio is Dolby Digital (256kbps).Connections include RGB scart in/out and s-video in,though you'll have to buy the GX7 if you want an iLink.I'm most pleased with my purchase.

Does it enable me to record my old VHS to DVD, and does it allow me to record straight from a cam corder onto DVD.
