Family Favorite
We've been eating these for years; great source of protein and loved by our toddler. We make up a box a week to have on hand for extras on the sides of our toddler's meals and she eats it heartily. Great form of non-perishable protein and whole grains to have on hand. Good flavor. One caution, go on the long side of the cooking window or the lentils won't be sufficiently soft.

lentil rice pilaf
I love lentils and I also like rice pilaf, but this product wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The seasoning packet leaves a lot to be desired as far as flavor goes. Nutritionally it's a good source of protein and fiber and good for vegetarian diets, but it definitely needs to be supplemented with additional spices.

Partial to lentils
In a family partial to lentils, an excellent source of protein (particularly when several of our many vegetarian relations visit), Rice Pilaf Lentil mix was always a spicy mealtime add-on. This lentil and rice combination will not please anyone who prefers their spices on the heavy side. It contains just the right amount of flavoring (as in not too much). It's far less heavily spiced than various Latin rice combinations that also include lentils. For years, we've always kept some of this product handy. (It does sell in our supermarkets; we don't have to order by mail.)At this juncture, though, we're down to our last box of this particular Near East flavor and we are less and less inclined to buy more. Even at local prices, which run considerably less than the per-box total one would pay from Amazon (including shipping), Near East has just grown too costly for our weekly grocery budget. But if you don't mind the extra expense, this stuff is truly delicious.

Nutritious, Delicious and Easy
This stuff has all but disappeared from grocery store shelves around here, even after requesting it from managers, Yay, Amazon! I got a small case and am all set. It's great for an entree, side dish or added to salads. Easy to make and always draws compliments and requests for the recipe.

it nonetheless is very good. I just hope Near East doesn't discontinue this ...
While the Lentil Rice Pilaf Mix wasn't exactly the "Lentils and Rice" variety I wanted, it nonetheless is very good. I just hope Near East doesn't discontinue this variety, as well.

yummy
love lentil pilaf. was able to find it at my local supermarkets for years. then all of a sudden no more. so i went to amazon, and here it was. my market is now carrying it again. but at almost $1.00 more per box. makes a great side dish. i sometimes add vegetables to it to make it a main coarse.

Too much salt
I love this product and this Near East brand is the best I have tried and I believe I have tried all that are available prepackaged. My only complain is that it has too much sodium. I remedy this by sifting the spice packet through a fine colander which gets rid of all the white fine powder and keep the vegetable chips. I add a little Mrs. Dash salt free seasoning and then prepare the package according to the instructions. It turns out great and is very low in sodium.

i feel so betrayed.
they stopped making this and now im going to slowly starve to death. i wrote the company and explained my situation. i asked them to post the recipe on the website or send it to me and they refused. i have eaten this for over 20 years. im very weak now. and i feel so betrayed.
