Hornby R2784x Railroad Br 4-6-2 'mallard' Class A4 00 Gauge Steam Locomotive

At c.£50, an excellent bargain for a loco drive A4 from Hornby. Obviously as a "Railroad" edition it's not going to be a state-of-the-art model, but it's a nice loco nonetheless. Downsides are the tender, which is the oversize tender-drive moulding and chassis with a ludicrous high coal load, but it is to some extent fixable. The loco has no cab glazing, and the older coarser valve gear and cylinders, but I've already replaced those with better ones from an ebay seller and it looks massively better. There are lots of other opportunities for minor tweaks I'll be getting round to in due course, aa after all isn't that what being a modeller is all about? As a runner, it's smooth quiet and powerful, and looks a treat at the head of a rake of Mk.1s or Pullmans. A good 4-star buy overall.

Bought in the black Friday sale , easy to program , great runner and looks good.No additional digital functions such as sound , those engines will be part of the 2015 range, so if that's important to you, waiting would be preferable.

i am of an age when i can remember seeing these beautiful engine's in all their glory and now that i am fulfilling my dream of setting up a train set layout i wanted this one to be a part of it.
