one of the most bizarre and scary Goosebumps entries
Deep Trouble carries a lot of broken promises, but still manages to be one of the more fun early Goosebumps yarns. It's cover promises giant, killer sharks, which only barely skirt into the story. The first third of the book promises a lot of gripping sea monsters and dark underwater, cryptozoological mysteries explored by our recalcitrant hero, Billy, and his goofball family on their research vessel. Then an evil zoo shows up and offers Billy's uncle, a marine biologist named Dr. D, an impossible fortune to find a...mermaid?Their reasoning for the mermaid's existence is baffling, and Dr. D's reaction to said baffling made for a really funny moment. It's an unexpected turn, taking us away from sea monsters in favor of mermaids and corporate conspiracies (especially given Gooseboops' target demographic). This being the short yarn that it is, they find the mermaid almost immediately, and the plight of animal abuse for personal gain takes center stage as evil corporations, mercenaries, broke researchers and zoos vie for ownership of a very self-aware mermaid.Despite how odd the mythological turn is, it's still a really fun adventure. Deep Trouble also contains some of the most surprising moments of the series thus far. Scientists, for example, were more often painted as evil in the '90s, and here they're undoubtedly the heroes who refuse to cross ethical lines. Deep Trouble also has some of the most violent moments we've seen since Welcome to Dead House, with a shark attack that gets uncomfortably brutal, and a claustrophobic near-downing that had me scared of the water for weeks when I was younger.Mostly, though, it was the cover art that had this as one of my childhood favorites.

I think for K and I we enjoyed the ending where we wonder if they will all ...
I have never read this book in the Goosebumps series so I was just as excited as K to start reading it. For me this book didn't seem scary at all. You know the cover has a shark so I was thinking it had to be about a shark right? We see how Billy Deep the boy who loves to use his imagination on go on adventures within the ocean. Though what happens when he learns that there is something in the lagoon where his uncle is at studying the sea life?I think for K and I we enjoyed the ending where we wonder if they will all believe Billy now as it seems that he really sees something within the sea. There is adventure, mermaids, and deceivable people lets see what happens next!

Goosebumps dives into an ocean of thrills...fire coral...sharks...mermaids...
William Deep, Jr. is a sea monster hunter. He finds a sea monster and manages to fight it off. Then zoo keepers come over to his uncle's ship and tell him that a mermaid has been sighted in the waters. Being an expert sea hunter, William finds it. The mermaid saved his life from a hammerhead shark! This book is thrilling and scary. I loved it! I would give it 4.5 stars. (This review was composed by my 9-year-old son)

disappointed
The book received was not in a good used condition. it had lots of pages with dog ears and the cover had a slight tear. My grandson collects the Goosebumps series and was very disappointed with the condition of this particular book.
