Little Green Board book – March 1, 2005

My students really enjoyed hearing this book as part of our study of line in Art. They painted as I read it a second time and the artwork was fantastic!

This is a wonderful book for young toddlers. Whenever we'd read it my daughter always had to find the caterpillar hidden on most pages. It's also fun tracing your finger over all of the hummingbirds movements.

I bought this book when my first son was born in November of 2001. He loved tracing the flight pattern of the hummingbird and trying to find the caterpillar on each page. This book quickly became a favorite for my second son who was born in 2004. He is now six and will still pull this book off of his shelf. I am going to buy one for my one year old niece. The illustrations are so lovely. I love to look at this book myself!

Amazing story about hummingbirds my 3 year old enjoys the story. I especially enjoy the rich vocabulary used in describing the hummingbird's behavior.

First, the book is great! My 3.5 year old daughter loved this book when we borrowed it from our library! I was disappointed to see that it is only available new in a board book format, so I took a chance and bought two copies used...one for my daughter and one for a friend. One copy was great...the only issue was a spot on the dust jacket. Otherwise, it was like new...exactly as described. The other copy I bought was listed in "good" condition and described as a former library book. Because of that description, I knew there would be more wear and tear. What I didn't expect was that the cover of the book would be dirty and that a few of the pages inside would be stamped with the library's name...right on the pictures! I personally don't call it "good" condition when the pages have been stamped. I certainly couldn't give that as a gift to our friend, and I really didn't want to give it as a gift to my daughter. So...I found another book for our friend. I guess I just need to be very wary of used book purchases.

This book originally costs $16, and I got for five bucks, and it looks brand new. Thank you thank you thank you!:)

I read this book to a class of preschoolers years ago and it was a perfect addition to a unit about birds, following a unit about flowers. The best part to me was that the little boy in the story is posed with a sketch pad and paint brush about to draw the hummingbird in flight. At the end, we see that the picture he creates is an age-appropriate scribble depicting the flightpath of the tiny bird. When I read this book years ago the children remained engaged and it served as a good motivation for them to draw or paint the non-representational marks of a bird's flight. I think the main difference now was the tiny size of the board book. Even with only eight or so children, this book is just too small to grab their attention. Unfortunately, this was the only available copy. I'll try it with no more than two kids and I think that may go better.

This is a great book for our theme on lines. For a simple paper back It was quite expensive however.
