OTTERBOX DEFENDER SERIES for Samsung Galaxy S5 - Frustration FRĒe Packaging - Black

December 2015: So after three months of use, here's my update.Pros:1. It is very well made. No cracking, chipping, or scratches so far.2. I haven't ever noticed a rainbow glare from the screen protector.3. The rubber has not warped from where I've removed the case. A lot of reviewers said this happened to them, but I did not experience this problem.4. It kept my phone safe when I accidentally dropped my phone in the garage.Cons:1. The case is starting to discolor. It is no longer a bright pink, but a faded, dirty pink. I wash my hands a lot and clean my case with wipes frequently, but I haven't been able to prevent it. I have had no luck with removing the stains with vinegar, soap, wipes, or bleach.2. I am now experiencing problems with pushing the 'on' and volume buttons. The case seems to have shifted and does not line up well anymore.3. The screen gets really nasty around the home button. I'm not sure what this is about, but I noticed it on my mother-in-law's same phone case. It seems like little white specks get under the home button cutout and stick to the underside of the screen protector. I have to clean it once a week. I'm guessing it's dust or dirt, but it's definitely annoying, especially since I have that extra glass screen protector on under it.I am downgrading my review to 3 stars because the discoloration is a huge issue for me. As of last week I actually have discontinued using this case as it was grossing me out with the stains. I also don't like that it's hard to turn on the phone and change the volume. Overall, a good case, but if discoloration bugs you, this is definitely not the right color case for you.September 2015 (5 stars):...and ultimately bought the pink and white cover for $28.99. Here's what I've noticed after a week of use:Pros:1. The case IS bulky, but that's what the defender series is all about. I like that it feels protected!2. Most of the rubber buttons match up well3. The color is vibrant and is not staining, despite being put into my dark colored jeans. Granted, it's been a week, I'll have to update.4. The home button lines up perfectly5. It feels solid, well made, and nice in your hands.Cons:1. The screen protector feels cheap and I didn't trust it (especially after all the reviews about screens breaking after one drop). It hovers a few millimeters over the screen. So what I did is I bought a ballistic glass screen protector and put that on my phone, then put my phone back in the case. I have two protectors, but now everything is snug and I feel more comfortable that the screen isn't going to be broken when I open the case (did you read THAT review? Scary).2. The power button on the case. It doesn't line up totally perfectly with the power button on the phone, so sometimes I press it and nothing happens. I've noticed this is mostly when I'm trying to do it in a weird position, so this is only a mini con that happens 2% of the time.3. It's hard to get the rubber part off. What I do is open the headphone flap and pull on that gently to help me get under the case so I can pull it the rest of the way off.4. I'm just noticing that after removing the cover twice, the rubber is ever so slightly warped up there. I did read that someone had luck with a hairdryer, so I'll give that a go if it gets worse.I wanted to wait a week before writing this so I could get to know the case a bit. Obviously, I'll need to update about discoloration, the rubber pulling away, and how the screen protector holds up (also, I turned on the glove extra sensitivity setting so it would register nicely) and if it scratches or breaks. Overall, it's a great case and I'm glad I found it!

Fit: Received this case today. It fit my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone perfectly; which is to say, it absolutely could not have fit better. Otterbox did a beautiful job of design and engineering here. The fit is so perfect that it takes a bit of care and thinking to insert your phone into the case. I suspect that is why some of the 1 and 2 star folks are complaining, i.e. they didn't do it properly, messed up their new case, and are now blaming Otterbox. So if you buy one of these, take your time, examine the case carefully before disassembling it (it comes assembled), note where the fasteners are and how it fits together. There are a number of Youtube videos showing assembly that are worth watching.Fingerprint Scanner: I use the Samsung fingerprint scanner routinely. I have used it multiple times with this new case in the past 12 hours. I have had absolutely no problems with it. So uncheck that complaint. It's just not a problem. Take your time, do it properly and your screen will unlock every time. This case in no way hinders that.Belt Clip: It takes two hands and a bit of care to insert and remove the phone from the belt clip. Maybe with time I will get better, but the point is not to drop the phone. So I would rate this a bit cumbersome; but something I suspect that one would get use to quickly.The phone + case is noticeably heavier, but not bothersome.Phone Functions (swiping, tapping etc.): Not affected by case whatsoever as far as I can tell. Obviously NFC is not going to work, but it doesn't work with any case that I am aware of. I think that you have to be within 2 mm of the other device to trigger NFC and I doubt if that is going to happen with his case-- although I have not fully tested it yet.Why only 4 Star? I rarely give anything 5 stars, but I was tempted here. I may revisit and upgrade to 5 after using the case for a few weeks. But, I do recommend this case for with no reservations.Note: Amazon sometimes mixes reviews from different models together which can be confusing. This review is for the Samsung S5 Defender case from Otterbox.

High quality materials and construction paired with rugged durability and functional access to your device.A mobile device is very fragile and vulnerable to damage, not to mention retails between $500.00-$1000.00. Otter box wraps that device in rugged protection AND peace of mind. I have put my Otter box to the test and It surpassed my expectations

Excellent case. It has saved my phone countless times. It is expensive but the peace of mind it offers is totally worth it. I often do manual labor and have it hanging off my belt. It's taken a beating several times, fell down the stairs, fell flat on the screen and still absolutely nothing. Buy it if you need a case, it's a good investment.

I am very happy with the sturdiness, colour and the plastic face cover. With most cases, it is tricky to affix the plastic face cover but with this Defender model it is part of the case. Easy and looks great.

Great protection and a lovely colour. I like that it has the screen protector. I thought it would be too chunky and heavy but it isn't.
