Perfect for older 7 Speed bikes! Great Value!
As others have stated this ST-EF65 Shift / Brake Lever set is the perfect upgrade for older bikes in need of repair as well as newer bikes with 7 Speed shift systems. I've now installed these shifters on both my 20 year old Canondale M500 Mountain bike and a 20+ year old Canondale H400 Hybrid road bike. The original shift / braking systems on both bikes had different models of Shimano components, but both bikes took this new kit with no problems. This particular set works with both V Brakes "and" Cantilever Brakes. From the Shimano factory, this set ships set for V Brakes. Instructions are included on how to change them to work with the Cantilever brake system. I attached some images "with notes" on how this change is preformed because a picture is worth a thousand words. Before you begin, and before removing your old shifters, shift your bike so that that your front and rear derailleurs are set with the chain on the smallest gear in the front, and largest gear in the rear. It helps the installation go easier.BE AWARE... no actual installation instructions are included with this set. I imagine this is because there are hundreds, if not thousands of bikes in the market place with 7-Speed shifters and there is no way Shimanao could cover all the various installation possibilities. That said, the installation is pretty straight forward, just be sure to document exactly how the old cables are currently routed on your bike before you begin and at a minimum... be sure to leave the same amount of slack in the cable housings when you start cutting. SUGGESTION: Add a little extra slack in the housings and cables (slightly longer than the original cabling) if you think there's a chance you might raise your handlebars or replace them with bars that have a higher profile.SPECIAL NOTE: Be sure not to confuse the cable housings in this set. There are two different types. One is specifically for the shifters and the other for the brakes. The shifter housing is stamped "Shimano SIS SP" while the brake housings are stamped "Shimano MSystem". Also note, the brake cable housings can be cut with wire cutters (although not recommended)... but... to cut the shifter cable housing you will either need to use a special cable housing cutter like the Park Tool Professional Cable & Housing Cutter... or you can use a Dremel Tool with a Cut-off Disk ... or have your local bike shop cut them for you. WARNING: If you try to cut the shifter cable housing with wire cutters you risk crushing the interior circumference of the shifter housing (elongating the housing interior) which can interfere with shifting. Also be aware the cable housing has a special interior plastic lining (for the purpose of reducing cable drag) ... so, after you cut the housing it is recommended you push an awl, or ice pick (or something similar) into the housing end to open the interior lining back up in the event it was misshaped during the cutting process.FYI: Shimano recommends that you insert the cables into the housings from the "stamped" end (e.g. "Shimano SIS SP"). There may be a valid reason for this (like Shimano put some lubricant in that end of the cable housing)... others have suggested this is only because if you have to cut the housing they don't want you to cut of the end of the housing that has their name on it.Last... the Internet is your friend. There are tons of videos online that show how to install and adjust both shifters and brakes. In my personal experience... adjusting the rear derailer was a snap and shifting was very smooth. However, adjusting the front derailer was more time consuming, spending several hours before I got it perfect. Looking back, if I had to do it over, once I had everything installed I might have taken my bike to the local bike shop because they said they would adjust the front derailer for $5! Then again... now I know how to do it myself!

Good quality, effective, complete, set
These are an easy to use complete replacement set for older shifters, brake controls, and cables. I was rebuilding an older bike in a project; the shifters had failed, and I replaced the cables, housings, brake pads, chain, and bottom bracket as well. This set comes with all of the cables and housings, as well as end caps etc. The lengths of shifter housings were acceptable if slightly generous out of the box.The thumb/finger shift arrangement is quite convenient for straight-bar handlebars whether on comfort road bike or mountain bike. These controls also work really well with cantilever brakes after switching the adjustment within the brake lever. The brake levers are "four finger" type. Their "two finger" replacements sets apparently just work with V-brakes and aren't compatible with cantilever types. After initial setup, which was ride-able, I spent an additional twenty five bucks to have the adjustments fine tuned by a pro. Totally worth it, the bike shifts and brakes excellently now.The visual gear indicator is somewhat helpful in use and its position settled down to "accurate" after a bit of use. At first it seemed to be slightly askew.PS: the shift housings are indeed SIS type, roughly 4mm, while the brake housings are M-System, roughly 5mm.

I've started the return process with these.
It looks and feels like a quality product. However, while the right shifter worked perfectly right out of the packaging, the left one didn't. When I shifted to three, it would not go back down without tugging the cable back.To make matters worse, I read from the reviews and the answers section that this product does come with housing and cables. Unfortunately for me, mine did not. My two shifters both had the shifting cables but not the brake cables, nor housing for either. Also, from what the pictures showed, my packaging was very different. My shifters and their cables did not come in a nice box like others did, they came wrapped in plastic. Not that I care about nice packaging. All I care about is the product. It just makes me wonder if mine were used which is why the left shifter doesn't function properly and why I didn't receive housing and brake cables with it.I'm not terribly upset. More of a nuisance than anything. I guess I just got the short end of the straw. Happens.

Refreshed 90s Trek with canti brakes
Bought these to replace 25 year old shifters on a Trek. These are the ones you want if you have cantilever brakes as you can choose between them or v-brakes by a little switch inside. Things to note: they are 4 finger, so they were too wide for use with bar ends I had on. They also look 'bigger' than the Tourneys on most entry level bikes, but have double barrel adjusters for convenience. Came with all cables and bike shifts and runs like new!

Decent replacement set
I have an old Cannondale H400. Since I was replacing the grips I decided to replace the shifters and brake levers too. I like the fact that these are all in one unit. My wife has a Trek with some great shifters and brakes and this set isn't as nice as hers but it is a definite upgrade over the OEM equipment on the Cannondale. I used to have twist style shifters and I much prefer the thumb/index finger throws on these. If you're lazy like me and use the existing cable tubes these are a breeze to install. I took off one start due to like the ergonomics better on the set on my wife's Trek. For the price these are a great upgrade if you have worn or twist style shifters and you want to try this style. Good price too.

I love 'em
I replaced my twist grip shifters for this trigger shifter combo after seeing a friends bike that had them, and I love them. Smooth, easy, and accurate shifting. The brake levers are a bit lower quality than what I had on there but they are fine.

Will it ever get to me
Ordered early August. Reported to me it will be delivered late October. I was hoping to change up my touring bike with trekking handle bars but I am waiting for this delivery. I won't have it in time for my bike trip in early October. It is disappointing.

Great upgrade to my older hybrid bike
My old shifters would always stick and not change gears. These were easy to install and setup. Bike now shifts like it did new.
