A sensitive and practical exploration of what really to think about if you are contemplating owning a Schnoodle!
In beginning the book, I had been intrigued by the Schnauzer-Poodle mix but didn’t know much about them. We have a miniature schnauzer, Teddy; in knowing that lovable rascal and a bit about the standard poodle, the Schnoodle did make intuitive sense. She addressed just about every question I would have as a prospective owner. The author’s tone, right off the bat, was conversational, warm and practical. She volunteers at a local animal shelter, has seen her share of discarded designer dogs, and offers a well thought out discussion on how to ethically obtain a Schnoodle puppy (expensive if purchased from a breeder). A dog advocate, Ms. Saben understands that buying a dog is more than just that – the match with respect to space and personality has to be suitable for both dog and human. What I liked about this book, is Suzanne Saben taking her reader on a comprehensive tour of the Schnoodle world as it she was addressing them in her home: A look out for this and think about that approach as opposed to organizing traits, grooming and training information into a textbook format that can get pretty tedious when one wants practical day to day dog owner information.Having said that, I really liked her section on feeding, while textbook complete, including all the science necessary, it avoided jargon which I personally feel is unnecessary in explaining things. That’s why this is a five-star book, written for the down to earth dog owner (as opposed to a breeder), for someone who wants to know the pros and cons of canned food versus homemade food, and should you let your Schnoodle run around outside, the whys and why nots. And she addresses weight issues in dogs! It’s significant and often not discussed. Her section on parasites, ticks and worming was comprehensive and easy to understand, topics of practical importance not often given enough attention or even mentioned.A sensitive and practical exploration of what really to think about if you are contemplating owning a Schnoodle.

Excellent information on the Schnoodle
I enjoyed this book about this breed of dog or mixed breed. It's good to know that it needs activity and can be a barker so living in a small place like an apartment or duplex may not work if you work outside the home. Seems to be a good family pet to raise with children too or just a companion for one or two people. The advice on breeders makes sense, of course we would want to see where the puppy was born and the conditions there. We all need to put these puppy mills out of business that abuse or neglect animals. This is a good book to show children who want a Schnoodle, then they know their responsibilities for raising.

Basic information on Schnoodles
This is a good book for someone without knowledge of dogs in general. I would have liked to see more detail on specific temperament traits, i.e., Schnauzer dominant, how to deal with problems in training. But as a general guide. I found it helpful and informative.

If you plan to buy just one Schnoodle book--make it this one!
If you plan to buy just one Schnoodle book--make it this one! I have yet to find a book as comprehensive as this. Susanne Saben touches on many topics from normal dog behavior, health, nutrition, etc. It was a quick read but full of helpful information. I felt completely comfortable bringing home our new Schnoodle because of everything I learned in this book. I've even used some of the techniques from the book to train my 7-year-old ill-mannered Yorkie!

Specific Schnoodle book probably not needed
This was ok. It was a quick read, but once you’ve read it you probably won’t need to read it again. A general dog/puppy book would be just as good.
