It is square. It connects. It works.
My wife and I bought this for our master bath renovation. I can say it is square. It connects inputs and outputs with 90 deg angle. Water flows through it. It has never failed. It is shiny. Did I say water flows through it?

A very finely crafted chunk of metal!
Wow! This is one chunk of metal! Very substantial, heavy and solid. No cheap black metal inserts, no plastic. Just a finely crafted chunk of metal. Very nice finish. You get what you pay for here, although other Moen products aren't necessarily equal in that fashion (e.g. a more expensive component does not equate to higher quality, as I have had some cheap plastic and black metal from Moen for twice the price of this one)The only challenge with a drop ell like this....getting the proper length pipe from in the wall into the back of the drop ell. It requires a very precise tolerance and standard nipples (short sections of pipe taper threaded on both ends) only come n 1/2" increments, so it may require custom pipe lengths. Pipe sealant and Teflon tape are a must.To those asking "What is a drop ell?" It is simple a fancy 90 degree elbow for the in wall pipe to screw into and make for a nice attachment point for a hand held shower hose. Rather than having a bunch of weight hanging on a standard shower arm, you can put the shower wand in a sturdy holder on the wall. Or if you do it right from the beginning, add an in wall diverter valve to switch between standard shower head and the drop ell for the hand shower. I digress. Just do it right from the start!

Nice solid unit
Unit looks good. It is threaded (1/2"NPT) on the back side. This is the only attachment so you will need access to the back side of the shower wall to install snugly and secure the pipe on the backside to the wall studs.
