Peerless book about VFX industry and economics. Amazing !
I review items extremely rarely and I think this book is well worth it. I have been in the VFX industry for the past 20+ years and this book offers such valuable information that every VFX artist would benefit. I have found every aspect of the book to be genuinely useful and the highlight for me has been the economics aspect. I have thoroughly enjoyed the second section which teaches the basics of economics and I would say that Pierre Grage has literally created a spark of interest in me for the economics like never before. His book is not only a deep insight about our business but also a great economics book that focuses on the VFX industry. This book is peerless in terms of the information it covers and I would recommend it to every artist who works in the VFX industry and also everyone else who would enjoy movies and would be interested in economics.

Most compelling analysis of the VFX economics ever done.
If you are in the VFX industry, this is a must read, regardless if you agree with Pierre Grage conclusions or not: in a industry so full of smart, intelligent independent minded people we also get so many opinions on what are the issues and possible solutions, but Pierre book dig further and offers a compelling, broad analisys which IMO hasn't been done before by comparing trends and economics that go from as far as old productions like "Gone with the wind" to today's big hits like "Avatar", all sided by inflation adjusted charts from either government backed rates or independent sources.Identifying what's a problem is the first step to fix it, and this book helps that task immensely.

Great book on film visual effects industry
This is a great book not just for those working in VFX, but for anyone interested in the film industry. Through the use of many examples and inside stories, the author shows how digital effects has had a profound and rapid change on the movie business. He effectively concludes that VFX is not as expensive as the studios want us to believe, but that VFX are often cheaper than the alternatives. But even with VFX increasing, the industry is in a terrible mess and likely to get worse before it gets better. Lots of fun to read and speculate on the future of VFX.

Not pleasant for anyone trying to make a living in what used to be a pretty satisfying occupation
A much appreciated overview of the dismal economics of the VFX industry. Grage provides what the artists cannot, the economic forces that are pushing their engagement and value to the industry down. Not pleasant for anyone trying to make a living in what used to be a pretty satisfying occupation, but necessary.
